Annabeth is finally eighteen. She can vote! She can... say she's a legal adult! Yay!
Percy always makes a big deal out of her birthday, which to her, doesn't make sense since his birthday's the one with their anniversary. She never had a real birthday party when she was little.
Sure, her dad would make her a cupcake when he remembered that her birthday was in July, but since he never technically wanted her, he never made any real effort to celebrate her existence. So she never did either. Even when she made it to camp she didn't tell anyone it was her birthday unless they asked and actually took the time to remember that about her.
Luke would take her to the lake and they'd act like a family for a day before he went back to his Hermes family members. The Athena kids would wish her a happy birthday, but she never received presents or any kind of celebration. Athena kids aren't big partiers, so she never really understood why people made big deals out of them.
When she met Percy her birthday had passed but once they started dating oh gods she would never have a birthday the way she had before.
The first one after they started dating and he was around (he was missing so that was a tough one but we'll move on from that right now...)
He woke her up in his favorite way to wake her up (multiple times) and then made her breakfast in bed. Blue everything with a side of more blue food.
So this year she was extra excited. It will be they're fifth anniversary on his birthday so he's bound to go all out for this birthday.
When she woke up to a drooling, asleep Percy she was a little surprised.
?
"Percy?" He snorted and woke up."Hi." He smiled as she looked at him expectantly. "What?" He sounded genuinely confused.
"What's the date?"
"The twelfth. Why?" She didn't hear even a hint of joking in his voice. "Hello?"
"...Jason asked if I could hang out tonight and I just figured that if nothing was special about tonight could go...?" She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Did he really forget? She's not about to tell him no because it's her birthday and she was already woken up without satisfaction, and now she's supposed to spend the night the same way?
"Sure, if you can't think of anything special about tonight, than— neither can I!" She did but didn't hope he could hear how upset she is about this whole exchange. He leaned over and kissed her forehead, lingering for a second, like a promise (that he's already broken) to make her happy no matter what.
"Alright. Oh! Are you stopping by Piper's right?"
"Yeah... I- I guess?"
"What do you mean you guess? You're Annabeth fucking Chase. Annabeth Chase doesn't do guesses. She knows.
"Then yeah. I know I'm going to Piper's cabin around seven."
"There she is!" He pulled her in for a real kiss. Like the type that makes your knees weak, and a chill run down your back. She savored every second of that kiss. For one, she wasn't woken up the way she had hoped, but this is okay too...
Annabeth ended up going to the movies that day, she knew she surely couldn't be let down by a movie made by professionals... right? Wrong. The movie only reminded her of Percy, and how he forgot her birthday! Everything that could have been blue (minus food because movies usually show stereotypical meals) was blue. Her heart ached for a blue birthday cake that she has gotten mighty good at making for his birthday.
By the time the movie was over she still had about three hours to kill. There was almost no point in even going to Piper's. Especially if her own boyfriend was going to forget her birthday. She went to the park to feed the ducks, despite what the sign says, she's going to feed those damn ducks because it's her birthday damnit.
