A/N: There is an epilogue. (if anything is misspelled it's because i'm dumb (I've been awake for six hours) (NOT BETA READ)
Percy hated snail-mail in general. It's always something about the properties near him, ads, or bad news. This situation was no different. His ten year high school reunion was already here. What did he have to show for it? A failed marriage, working for his mom's bakery, or the fact that he's never left New York. That weird time in which he was still dating his high school girlfriend (who needs to remain nameless) does Not count.
When he met up with the people he still talks to, Grover and Thalia, they try to make him feel better, but there's only so much friends can say and do before it fades into background noise of his own thoughts and insecurities.
"Seriously, Perce. I doubt anyone remembers anything about you." Grover tried to cheer him up
"That— that's not the problem." Percy sighed, pulling at his hair.
"What? You can't seriously be worried that Annabeth's actually going to show up." Thalia seemingly tried to bite her tongue but couldn't help herself.
"I've done nothing with my life." Percy hit his head on the table.
"That's— oh." Thalia stopped.
"No, you were married, plus you ran New York Aquarium for like a hot sec."
"No one cares what I did, they only care what you're doing now. I just won't go."
"Aw, Perce, no one cares." Thalia flicked his ear.
"Don't listen to her, I would miss you, Perce." Grover tried for a smile.
"Yeah, okay. You and Junie, right?
Don't get Percy wrong, he appreciates his friends' efforts to get him to the reunion, it's just hard when he was known as the guy who was always in a couple. He, at one point, been everyone's crush, and not that he's stopped taking care of himself, but there's only so far being pretty can take someone.
Annabeth, the girl he wanted to spend his entire life with, knew that. She would spend night after night with him working out their schedules to try and keep him, but she had too many classes that overlapped with his breaks and then the same with his. When her first round of classes for the semester would end, his semester would be just beginning.
By the third (or was it his fifth?) time missing his flight from the Albany airport they sat down to talk about things and maybe revisit her master plan for them.
"I know you're tired, but we really need to talk, Percy." Annabeth guided his half asleep figure to the table.
The table was set up with a large multi week calendar, a ruler, a pencil and what seemed to be her architecture pencils.
"What is this?" He smiled, her antics still charming after years of friendship and dating. He just can't seem to help himself.
"We need to figure this out. If it hadn't been for Paul being in the car when you were running out the door you wouldn't have made that flight." She smoothed her thumb under his eye.
"That doesn't matter now, I'm here, let's go back to bed." Percy tried to lean in and kiss her. Giving in for a moment, he felt her lean into him, almost like she knew something he didn't.
"Percy, please." She managed out between his lips. "We really need to go over the schedule. It's not working."
"I know, I just— I don't want to think about it. I'm only here for a couple hours, let's use them wisely." He held her hip, pulling her onto his lap as he kissed her.
