She knew she was walking a dangerous road the first time she looked at her best friend as something more. When that worked out for her, despite the whole him going missing, then the whole trekking through hell thing, she couldn't be happier with her life with Percy.

Annabeth had always learned that nothing was permanent but then Percy came along, and changed things. It's worth mentioning that the changes he made were mostly for the better. Other changes kind of fucked with her head, but that was before they were dating. Like when he chose to spend the majority of the summer they all thought would be his last with Rachel. She had been hurt, and betrayed. Not a fun feeling.

(Not as betrayed as she felt after she learned what Luke had done to Silena which had been her breaking point, but you know...)

She'd been rejected by everyone who ever said they loved her. Her father never wanted her, Helen, her stepmother, drove her away, and Thalia joined the hunters. There's the whole Luke thing and that weird moment in time where her mom disowned her but also sent her on that quest (which threw her and Percy into Tartarus)...

Now, here they were. Seniors at New Rome University on the edge of something new, and it terrified her. Not much can scare Annabeth Chase, but the thought that Percy might not want to continue being with her now that they had their degrees, scared her shitless. Maybe more than the thought of having to go through Tartarus again. At least then Percy would be stuck with her. He needs her in hell. But does he need her in the real world?

One night, leading up to the month in which their graduation is supposed to take place, she's over at Percy's res-hall, in the lounge, watching the food network, but only because their tv was broken. Annabeth hadn't minded much until that night. They were able to reserve it most of the time and share more than a few kisses. Then Bobby Flay's show came on and Percy pulled away.

He was smiling goofily, and held her close, but as nice as this little snuggle session is, she can't sit still.

"Hey, Perce?" He hummed his answer. "I was just- uhm—" Her voice caught in her throat. Why was this so terrifying? No way would he dump her now... right?

"You, okay?" He asked, his eyes fixed on the tv. She cleared her throat nervously, but hoped he wouldn't notice.

"Yeah, I- I guess I just... I've been thinking about how we're graduating soon, and I guess my question is..." She took a second to take a breath.

"Can this wait?" He yawned, and checked his watch. "I have a test tomorrow and I want to do some last minute studying." She smiled, almost relieved she could put this conversation off. Then again there was the voice in the back of her head that was saying logical things that she normally would follow, but tonight, with the way he was looking at her like a tired puppy, she wanted nothing more than to kiss him good night.

"Yeah." She was breathless as she wiped  her sweaty palms on her pants. He sighed and kissed her forehead.

"Come, I'll walk you to your res-hall." He took her hand, entwining their fingers and kisser her hand.

She slipped her hand out, not wanting him to collapse from exhaustion.

"It's okay. I'm just across the street."

"Thank gods, I might just fall over here." He chuckled and scratched the back of his neck. "But let me walk you downstairs?" She took his hand and they headed to the doors. She kissed him one last time for that night and he waited till she was in her building to go back up.

They met up for lunch that next day where she was going to try again.

"So... uhm, last night I was trying to talk to you about—"
