Leaning on the edge of the bench, still waiting for his preceptor to return, Yunho couldn't help but keep glancing down at the seat Mingi had been sitting in.
He had tried so hard to be the person he'd been before. It shouldn't have been so hard, but yet as minutes passed - leaving his body to calm down a little - he started to notice just how nervous he had actually been.
And yet Mingi had looked as calm as ever. How could it be that even though Mingi had been the one with something to loose; and Yunho assumed embarrassment to brunt; somehow, he hadn't been the one who looked to be the most affected.
How was it that Yunho seemed to be having it harder?
He even sat with me that night, despite us not talking...
'Jung Yunho.'
Yunho's blood ran cold. That sounded a lot like a harsh, blunt voice.
Glancing around, he saw a man in a suit standing at the entrance to the nurses station, staring straight at him. Nurses and Midwives all seemed to startle at the cold tone, all glancing nervously between them.
'Yes?'
'The Director would like to see you in his office.'
Yunho took a deep breath, remaining calm. 'I was wondering when he'd call.'
'Please come with me.'
Yunho sighed, pushing off of the desk. However as he did, a young Midwife who had been standing beside him gently took hold of his sleeve, stopping him.
'Are you okay?' she asked in a hushed whisper, avoiding the scornful eyes of the unidentified suited man.
Yunho gave her a reassuring nod. 'I'll be fine. Thank you.' Most people never saw the Director, and yet, here he was, about to walk down to the office that only very few stepped into. 'Could you please tell Doctor Jo that I had to step out for a minute?'
The Midwife nodded, concern shrouding her wide, worried eyes.
'Thank you.'
And with that, he turned to follow the suited man, surprised at how calm he actually felt.
~~~
The suited man, who turned out to be the secretary, pushed open one of the double doors, holding it open for Yunho.
'Sir, I have brought the student.'
The Director looked up, his old eyes catching almost competitively with Yunho's the moment he looked up. 'Thank you,' he said, without breaking eye contact. 'That will be all. Please leave us.'
The secretary nodded, gesturing for Yunho to walk inside, before letting the heavy door close with a thud behind him.
Yunho took a deep breath and told himself to remain calm. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he broke the eye contact like it hadn't meant a single thing to him, and hadn't been a silent domination war between the two. He looked around the place, walking up to sit on the meeting couch without even being told to. The slight attack on the Director's power and respect clearly didn't go unnoticed, but yet, the old man chose to ignore it, standing from his desk and meandering over to sit at the head of the table.
A painfully long silence ensued, one no doubt that was supposed to intimidate Yunho. But after multiple days without hearing anything, and having done exactly what Mingi had said, and not thinking about it, Yunho was surprisingly unbothered by the silence.
