Hongjoong awoke to an empty bed. Groping around the sheets beside him, his confused and still-sleepy eyes squinted open, straining through the dark.
'Mmmgmrrr,' he groaned, wiping his eyes. 'Hwa?'
As he began to wake up, he forced himself to sit, pulling the blankets around his shoulders. Sounds began to become distinguishable, and as they did, the rumbling in the background distinguished into the sound of the electric jug boiling water.
'Hwa, baby,' Hongjoong groaned, and as he did, he saw Seonghwa back out from behind the fridge with the milk and a cup in his hands; hair messy and dressed in his warm pyjamas. He had a piece of toast stuffed in his mouth, and looked incredibly goofy.
Hongjoong giggled, yawning and running his hands through his messy hair. 'Is it time to wake up?' he groaned. He pulled Seonghwa's dressing gown off a chair beside the bed and wrapped it around his shoulders, before slipping out of bed into his slippers.
Tapping his phone screen on the bedside table, he groaned as he saw there was still fifteen minutes before his alarm.
As he made his way into the kitchen, he came up behind Seonghwa pouring boiling water into his coffee. Hugging him from behind, Hongjoong pressed his cheek into his sturdy back.
'Morning babe,' Seonghwa said softly, his voice low as he ran his hands over his arms tucked around his waist. 'How'd you sleep?'
Hongjoong hummed contentedly, soaking up his warmth and scent. 'Supine with my eyes closed. What about you?'
He heard Seonghwa snort, before groaning. 'Ya. Don't be smart with me at four thirty in the morning.'
Hongjoong smirked. Letting Seonghwa turn them so he could face him, Hongjoong reached up onto his tippy toes and pecked him on the cheek. 'What's for breakfast?' he hummed against him, closing his eyes for a moment as he melted in his arms.
'Toast and eggs?'
Hongjoong laughed. 'I was asking you, not the other way around.'
'Oh okay, hang on...' He cleared his throat. 'Ahem. Toast and eggs.'
Hongjoong laughed. 'You're funny,' he whispered. Turning around in his arms, he picked up Seonghwa's coffee and took a sip, giggling as Seonghwa suddenly gasped.
'Ya, thief!'
Giggling, he put the cup back down. 'That's no way to talk to your elders.'
'Don't be cringe.'
Giggling, Hongjoong turned and reached his arms up around his neck, smiling. 'I could never be cringe.'
Seonghwa's lips pulled into a wide smile. Leaning down, he nuzzled the tip of his nose against his, cooing. 'No. You're too adorable for that.'
Hongjoong melted. Reaching up, he booked him on the nose. 'Not nearly as adorable as you.'
And with that, he turned and stole his toast, escaping away to the table, giggling contentedly, and feeling happier than he could have ever thought he could feel.
