Chapter 57 Family is always there

"I'm so super sorry for snapping at you the other day and I hate myself for that", Meadow said and she felt like the world was lifted off her shoulders. It was Friday night and again Meadow had snuck out. This time she actually asked Harry to borrow his invisible cloak and he agreed but it was a catch to that. Meadow had to sit there in a room with Harry, Ron and Hermione staring intensely at her while she talked about why James Potter was her Godfather and that AJ had another man which the twins never had met. Remus Lupin...

"It's fine really and don't hate yourself. You had all right to yell at me and I apologise for being an egotistical fool", AJ rambled and threw an arm around Meadow. Nyx and Tycho were ahead down the hallways and all the stairs. They had all agreed on meeting outside the Gryffindor dormitories because they didn't want Meadow to walk all by herself. Rio wasn't there though since they had placed their rule-breaking days behind them, at least for now.

"Guys run!", Tycho yelled and Nyx faced palmed himself. A figure was appearing from a corner and it was the figure of a tall woman with a pointy hat. She didn't see them but she definitely heard them and she was walking determined towards them.

"Thanks for exposing us", Nyx mumbled and Meadow heard that one so she spun around and she was ready to leave them all behind but Professor McGonagall came into sight and she cleared her throat. The three Ravenclaw and the only Gryffindor stared up at her face and it looked like someone had switched her milk with orange juice in the cereal. Tycho frowned when he saw something, the back head of someone he knew far too well.

"Waffles!", Tycho suddenly yelled out of the blue and Mcgonagall face got even more redder in anger but it was so worth it.

"What even is this? Three students out of bed past bedtime. I-", Mcgonagall scolded but she stopped when she saw a female who had her lips curled and she didn't look fairly happy either before she put on a bright smile. McGonagall didn't even know that Meadow was there since she was holding the invisible cloak tightly around her.

"Good evening, Professor McGonagall. Sorry for all this and it probably seems like nonsense but I was walking ahead to make sure that the path was safe. You see, Moonshard, Reaver and Laurier were simply helping me out sorting the books in the library since our librarian Madam Pince wasn't feeling so well so I stepped in for her but I needed some help from some trusty people to keep track of things.", Esmeralda lied and the twins or Nyx couldn't believe it while Tycho knew he was going to hear about this afterwards.

"I'm not sure if I'm going to trust your words or not Miss Laurier but if I find out you are lying, that position as a Prefect will be far gone", Mcgonagall told strictly before she once again cleared her throat and this caused Esme to flinch. She loved being a prefect but she couldn't let her little brother get into trouble, she promised Fabian that.
"Well I don't see any reason why I should hold you guys up against any further but you three better head to bed and if I see you guys here anymore it's right into detention with all of you...even you Esmeralda", Mcgonagall continued and a second later she was far of her way. Esme lost her smile when her Professor was out of sight and she gave a dead stare to her brother.

"Tycho! This is the last time okay...I can't continue covering up for you four because I know Meadow is here under some invisible cloak that I'm certain belongs to Harry. I have caught him using that thing so many times that I can see one", Esme told pissed and Meadow did what she said.
"Just go back to your dormitory okay and please do some more effort to stay away from trouble", she continued and like McGonagall, she vanished out from sight and Tycho felt bad. He didn't want to use his sister's powers but he needed her.

"I can't believe that worked", Tycho told and he breathed out.

"Waffles? Clever one", Nyx said highly as he patted Tycho on his shoulder.

"It's a code word, I see. I and AJ have plenty of them in case we need them", Meadow added grinning but a yawn interfered with her smile.

"Miss Moonshard a word with you please", Snape said when Meadow placed her toe outside the Potions classroom, Ron looked rather worried for her but Harry dragged him along and he closed the door shut.

"What is it this time Snape? I haven't walked out of your classes for a while and I'm paying attention to your...words and I have good grades so what is it now? Something more so you can talk to me, try and found out if I'm something like my dad or not. Because I ain't anything like my dad and stop trying to find some resemblance to him", Meadow muttered irritated because recently after classes, Snape had constantly asked her to stay behind for a chat and she had indeed asked AJ about this but he said that he actually liked talking to Snape sometimes.

"It's a fullmoon coming soon and I will rather assume that you and your brother will sneak out of your dormitory", he told and she froze and choked on her breath.

"Why would we even do that...", she rambled.

"You do realise that your mother told me about you and AJ being werewolves", he claimed and Meadow was ready to run for it.

"Okay so I may be half-werewolf but why do you care is the question", she said confident but she didn't feel so fairly confident.
Snape got to his desk and dug in a shelf before he walked over to Meadow with a piece of parchment.

"It has my signature on it so if any of the other Professors find you two wandering in the hallways, give them this. This will make sure that you don't get in trouble for something you can't decide falling into", he asseverated and she wasn't sure that she heard the right words.

"I don't need it, I already have a way out of getting into trouble", she blurted out and she didn't know why she said it, was it because she didn't want Snape's help or that she wanted him to know that she was fine on her own.

"I know but those times are over. Miss Laurier has told me about her recent meetings with you and your friends and I told her that she did the right thing plus I didn't expect less from Esmeralda when she can help her little brother out of trouble. But know she can't do that anymore but don't worry she's still a prefect but if she abuse her limitations as a prefect one more time, we sadly have to replace her", Snape explained gruffly.

"Why are you even nice to me and AJ? Considering who was made godparents and all...seems like you were left out", Meadow smothered.

"Funny thing you're mentioning that but did you know that your father changed that very piece of paper a year before he died. Go and check it for yourself but your dad really wasn't the religious type but he still wanted someone close to him to make sure his children were alright. Did you know that your father chose individual godparents for you and AJ but that he added one extra for you two to share", he admitted and Meadow got a strange feeling that everything clicked.

"No, absolutely not", she stammered fumbling.
"But it makes sense since you are nice and humble with me and my twin and treat everyone else as cockroaches", she added flatly.

"That's your response, no insults, no denials and no complaining", he said as he scratched his head. He did expect a different reaction than the one he got but it was Meadow.

"As long you bail me out of trouble, I don't mind but stay out of my way, will you? I don't want someone pretending to be a father Snape because that kind of love affection...you ain't finding that with me and AJ. I know you only want to help us but you can't fit in my dad's shoes. No matter how hard you try, you are just someone who knew my dad and for heaven's sake Snape. You are my Professor and I would like to keep it that way", Meadow explained sighing. She didn't want to hurt the blokes' feelings but he needed to hear it sooner or later.

"I can never take over after your father and I was never planning on doing that. I simply wanted to help since your mom did send me a letter before the school year started. She wrote that you have some issues when you aren't home and I hoped you would know that if you ever needed to talk, you just have to ask", he claimed trying to form a smile but it ended up rather croaked.

"Thanks for the offer, but I think I will be fine without it but feel free to ask AJ. He actually likes talking to you for some reason and I don't get why but no offence to you Snape. It's probably something wrong with me like it always is", she replied before she spun around and walked out of his office.
She couldn't shake it off but she knew that something in her was broken for good and it couldn't be fixed. It broke when she took someone's life but she didn't know. When her mom came back home from work she lifted AJ up and rushed him to the hospital but she couldn't remember who carried her because someone did and she was sure it was a man.
