Chapter 66- Down the rabbit hole-Part 3

"MEADOW AND AJ, YOU TWO CAN'T STAND THERE", Ron yelled after approachable five minutes of playing this ruthless game of chess. Pawns had fallen, everyone besides from the twins that were in the direct warzone. But both of them was in danger, close to being slain down by the white knight. Only one of them could move and be safe but the other would be hurt real bad.

"AJ, he's right. One of us is going to go down and it's me so just move out of the way please", Meadow said flatly. She wasn't scared of some chess game because her life couldn't be at stake. She refused to believe that she would be lost in the underworld, this early and in this way.

"No", AJ told stubbornly. "I am not going to let you get hurt", he argued.
What kind of brother would he be if he didn't take care of his sister.

"I'm sorry brother but please forgive me afterwards", she told hiding any sign of fear in either her voice or her body language. She couldn't let AJ get hurt not after what happened that time when Emma and Brixton died. If it's wasn't for her they would probably be alive, if she only listened to AJ about jumping out the window to escape or if she just stayed put. She still couldn't wrap her head around that her brother, jumped over her so she would be protected from whoever the intruders were. Because of his bravery, she couldn't let him be the protector since after what happened, Meadow's biggest instinct is to take the punches that were aimed at him. She was the one who needed to be brave, the one who would take care of the other, the one who would keep it together at all times and never forget to be the one who would be the shield for danger.

"What is that suppo-", he rambled in such a hurry that he didn't see what was coming. Before he could finish his sentence, Meadow had already pushed him, making him move a step forward. He stood there shocked, his mouth wide open and he knew he had failed. He should have known what his twin was up to like he constantly did but this time he didn't.
Behind him, he heard split seconds of gasps coming from Hermione, Ron and Harry and they were petrified. They had seen the damage these pieces made to each other and they didn't want to imagine what it would do to a person. Before anyone could react, the knight moved one step, then another then two steps more until it was standing right in front of Meadow.

She closed her eyes in hope that she would be okay after this and the next second the knight drew its sword. Suddenly something came over Meadow, almost like a bucket of water getting poured over her. She opened her eyes and what she saw was something that never had happened to her. Everything around her was in slow motion, so slow that she could see smoky mist coming out from AJ's mouth when he was breathing out. It was only the things around her that slowed down but also the sounds. The hearts of the people in the room beat tensionly like drums and they just got louder and louder until the sound was overwhelming. But Meadow didn't waste any time to try and cover her ears, instead, she saw the knight's sword closing up on her and when it was near enough she found her feet firm to the board before she bent her knees and jumped as high as she could when the sword was going to cut off her legs. At that moment everything went down to normal and it was obvious that the others had seen Meadow's quick reflexes but she didn't care for that now. She started running so fast her legs could take her until she reached where the chessboard wasn't. Next to the fallen pieces that were crushed by their downfall.

"I'm okay guys, just continue playing uhm did I mention that my mom made me and AJ take martial art classes so we would be able to protect ourselves by the creeps on the streets?", Meadow explained still gasping after breath. She just said the first thing that came up in her head, that would explain to her fellow Gryffindors that she can potentially see things in slow motion whenever the wolf within her world react.

"Meadow Starr Celestine, you are a frickin idiot and we are going to talk about this afterwards", AJ whispered so lowly that Ron, Hermione and Harry couldn't hear anything but Meadow heard every word and her immediate response was to express disbelief when she mad her eyes go in a circular motion.
