Breaking Point

Zephyr's POV
When everyone had left for the night, I quietly went into the lab and very carefully examined the evidence. I poured the water out into a tray, but the feather got stuck in the bottle. So I used a pair of tweezers to pull it out, and very carefully placed it onto a smaller tray. Then I picked up the tray and took it to my computer table. I placed it on the table and turned it on to scan over the feather. I took a deep breath as the feather lifted up over the tray, and was scanned over by the table. Then it fell right back down, and the data from the feather projected up in front of me. According to the scan, it had been shed only a day ago, and belonged to a teenage girl. I smiled, more sure than ever that it had to be Pink Wings. So when the DNA scan concluded, I immediately opened the tab, only to freeze with my eyes wide. In big bold letters, with one hundred percent certainty, her name hit me in the head like a lead pipe. Gypsy Green. I took a step back and just stood there in shock. My technology has never been wrong before, and I'd trust it with my life. It was her, and I never even questioned it. To think that same feather has wrapped around me before, made my skin shudder. I couldn't bring myself to conclude the test. I couldn't bring myself to start making a plan. I don't even know how to proceed after something like this. My eyes began to water, and I clenched my eyes shut as the tears started to fall. I couldn't move, so I just stood there and cried silently.

All of a sudden, I heard a spark behind me and sucked up my tears immediately. "Don't. Dad. I don't want to hear it." I spat. Gabe didn't say anything, and I refused to turn and face him. I clenched my fists even though my hands were shaking. I expected him to say 'I told you so,' but he didn't. Instead, he gently placed his hand on my shoulder, and I dropped my head. "Zephyr." He whispered. I hesitated, but slowly glanced over at him. He held out his other hand to me, and I caved immediately. I hugged him and cried into his shoulder. He ran his hand up and down my back. "It's ok. I'm here for you." He whispered. "You were right, dad. I'm so sorry. I should have listened to you!" I cried. "No. No, don't you say that!" Gabe grabbed me by the shoulders and bent down to look me in the eyes. "We never could have known this. You have every right to be upset, because you love her. This has nothing to do with my opinion of her. Gypsy has always been a good girlfriend to you. I only didn't like her because she reminded me of Aurelia when we were kids. But even Aurelia has always been a great person. And I'm telling you this now because you can't give up on her. The only way she will get a pardon is if you can change her mind." He explained. I stared at him for a second and shook my head. "I can't... she's hurt so many people. My friends! How could I ever see her the same?" I asked. "You're telling me you don't love her? Just like that?" He asked. "Of course I do!" I cried. "Then it's possible. I know it hurts like hell, but it's going to be ok. And no matter what happens, I'll be here for you." He replied. I sniffled and looked down. "Thanks dad." I mumbled.

The next day, when Gypsy came into work, I was wearing my own super suit. It was black and gray with a glitch-like pattern. "Woah! Spandex looks good on you babe." Gypsy giggled. I stood in front of my bookshelf, just staring at it. "What do you know about portals?" I asked. "A lot actually. Uncle Vlad makes portal machines for individual use. I'm his main tester. Why?" Gypsy asked. Her words made me twitch. "Have you ever worked with your mom on machines? Like... robots and stuff?" I asked. "You know I have. What's going on, baby?" She laughed. I clenched my fists. "I don't know. What is going on, Gypsy?" I turned to her and she raised an eyebrow. I slowly started stepping closer. "Or should I say, Pink Wings?" I snapped. She just blinked at me. "Was that an insult? Are you... insulting my wings? I'm confused." She shook her head. "God dammit Gypsy! You're the villain my friends have been fighting! You attacked homecoming with a dinotron! You gaslit the Dreamer family into working for you! You robbed several stores across the city! And you've hurt almost all of my friends!" I screamed. She was taken back. "I... I didn't know they were your friends." Gypsy looked to the side. "So you admit it. It was you. Why?" I asked. "For you! I thought that if I couldn't go to homecoming with you then no one should!" She snapped. "And you were just gonna kill all of those kids?!" I shrieked. "Of course not! I knew they'd be evacuated." She shrugged. "Are you insane?! You did this just because of my dad?!" I yelled. "It's not about him! I just wanted to be with you! So I did everything to get that!" She replied. I took a deep breath as my eyes watered. "How can I forgive you after everything you've done?" I asked. "Zephyr, please. Just listen!" She begged. "No! You've made yourself a super villain, and I am a hero. So you will call me Cyber. Now get out of my office, and know that the only reason you aren't behind bars right now is because I love you more than anything." I snapped. Gypsy took a step back. "A villain? You really think that?" She asked. "Go! Pink Wings. Don't make me force you." I snapped. Her eyes softened. "Fine. Have it your way, Cyber." She stormed out. I sucked back my tears with a deep breath and then called Lizz. "The matrix has been compromised. Call everyone to your lab, now." I ordered, and hung up.

Everyone was confused when I arrived at the lab. "Listen up! And listen carefully! Gypsy has been Pink Wings this whole time, and now she is more against us then she ever has been. It's only a matter of time before she strikes again, and this time, no one is safe. She knows who we all are. We have to stop her before anyone else gets hurt!" I announced. Just then, the alarm went off and Charlie walked out of his room. "Woah... ok. What's going on here, kids?" He asked. "Dad, the matrix has been compromised, and now Pink Wings knows who we are." Lizz explained. "Yes, I'm aware of that. I mean, why are you all suited up?" He asked. I opened the report on the computer table. "Because we're all going to have to fight this time. Charlie, can you call out the adults from work? There are multiple dinotrons heading to the matrix." I said. "I'm on it. Be careful you guys." He nodded and walked away. "The rest of you, prepare yourselves. We're not leaving until she's been cuffed." I snapped.

Zane stopped me before we left. "Router! Is something wrong?" I asked. "Yeah. You're going crazy! I understand that you're hurt, but you can't put everyone in danger just to get back at your ex." He snapped. "She's not my ex! And I'm not crazy! She chose this path and I'm simply going to show her what that truly means. The heroes will be perfectly fine, as always, and we will be victorious. I lead the heroes, Router. Now get back in line!" I snapped. "You don't lead me! I'm in charge too, you know! And even if we do come out on top, you will still be six feet under. You're dying right now, and if you go through with this, you will never come back!" Zane snapped. I glared straight at him and simply pushed past him. "If you don't want to help, then you can stay here to try and prove your point, but there's no use. I've already made up my mind." I spat, and left him there.
