Ella's POV
I knocked on the door to my moms house. After everything that's happened, I'm determined to get my siblings on my good side. Especially since there's a high possibility of me getting injured again. Mia answered the door, and seemed stunned to see me. I thought she looked emo before, but now it's almost punk with all the spikes she's wearing. "What are you doing here?" She asked. "What are you wearing?" I replied, in shock. Mia rolled her eyes and closed the door. I panicked and stuck my foot in it. I yelped as the door crushed it, and jumped up in pain. "Why would you do that? Idiot." Mia huffed. "Sorry! I'm just a little stunned, but I like this look." I smiled nervously. "Ok... what do you want?" She asked. "I just wanted to stop by and say hi to my family. Can't I do that?" I asked. She raised an eyebrow. "Lila isn't home, if that's why you're here, but come in. I'll tell mom you're here." She sighed and let me in.
Mia walked down the hall to get my mom, while I waited in the living room. Then someone else walked out of the kitchen. She stopped when she saw me, and I raised an eyebrow at her. She was dressed the same way Mia was, but she didn't have a single piercing. "Hi! Who are you?" I asked. "I'm Dany. You must be the famous Ella." She replied. "You know me?" I walked over to her. "Oh yeah. The fam doesn't shut up about you and your heroics." She nodded. "They told you who I am?!" I shrieked. "Not before I figured it out. You and your dad should really stop coming here in uniform." She shrugged. My jaw dropped. "Anyway, I'm Mia's girlfriend. It's nice to meet you." She held out her hand. I blinked a few times before I shook it. "She's gay?" I asked. Dany laughed. "You should really come around more often." She smiled. I sighed and nodded. "I know." I replied. Then I noticed something. Dany's teeth were shining. They were practically sparkling. Specifically though, her two extremely sharp canines, shined a pearly white. I slowly looked up at Dany's eyes, to be met with her dark red irises. "Are you a vampire?" I asked. She nodded. "Yeah. Now that I'm old enough to avoid sun poisoning, I've been spending a lot more time here with Mia." She explained. I stared at her in shock, and opened my mouth to speak, but closed it in fear of being offensive. Dany just chuckled at my confusion. "Vampires don't bite people. Chill out, but yes. I do drink blood. Cows blood. That I buy at the store... cause I'm not weird." She assured me. I smiled nervously and huffed a laugh. "Right! Ok... so when she's on her period-" Dany held up her hand to stop me. "Stop. That's disgusting." She said. "Ok." I looked down.
Mom walked out with Mia, and I smiled at them. "Oh god. You met Ella? I'm so sorry for whatever she said." Mia groaned. "All good, babe." Dany smiled. "Hey Ella. What's up?" Mom asked. "Well, I'm here to fix what I broke a long time ago." I explained. Mom's eyebrows shot up, and she snatched my hand. Then she dragged me into her bedroom. "Your timing is awful." She groaned. "What? Why?" I asked. "Several reasons! One, Lila is afraid of you now, and is gonna have a panic attack when she sees you here. Two, Dany is staying here with Mia all week because her parents are out of town. Three, Josh just got on the freshman basketball team, and is super stressed about it. And four! I'm leaving tomorrow to visit my parents in Australia! Now, I'm so proud of you for wanting to reconnect with them, but now is not the time." She explained. "Mom, there's never going to be a time! They hate me! I have to do something!" I exclaimed. She sighed heavily, and looked up at me. "Your dad is going to stay here with them while I'm gone. If you're here while he is, it'll look like a ploy to get them to be Arrows. So if you're really set on this, I beg you to find a way to do it at school." She warned me. I took a deep breath and sighed. "Ok mom. Have a safe trip." I hugged her.
At school the next day, I stalked Mia around the halls. I wanted to say something, but I couldn't think of anything that wouldn't make her mad. "You know, she's gonna notice if you keep being so obvious." Retro told me. "What am I supposed to say?" I asked. "Do you have anything in common? Just talk about that." She shrugged. "The only thing I found out we have in common is that we're both lesbians!" I snapped. "You didn't know she was gay? I figured it was obvious. Also, Dany is pretty cool." She shrugged. "How do you know Dany?" I asked. "When she found out about you, I had to have her swear not to say anything." She answered. I huffed. "So what? You want me to talk about her girlfriend?" I asked. "You could always talk about me." Retro smirked. I smiled and rolled my eyes. "I do enough of that already." I kissed her and walked over to Mia.
"Hey!" I walked along beside her. "Why are you talking to me? Go away. I don't want anyone to know that I know you." Mia panicked. "What? Why?" I asked. "You're a junior! You're the star host of the school news! You're popular! I can't be seen with you! It would ruin my image." She huffed. "I am not popular, but thank you. That makes me feel nice. I actually just wanted to ask you about Dany. How long have you been together?" I asked. Mia groaned to herself. "Three months." She answered. "That's great!" I smiled. Mia stopped and turned to me. "Ella, I know what you're doing. I appreciate the effort, but please, go away." She begged. I frowned and sighed. "Ok. Sorry." I looked down. "Mia! Who are you talking to?" Her friends walked over, and I looked up. "Oh hey! The news girl." One of them smiled at me. "Do you know her?" Another one asked. Mia shook her head. "About as much as you do. I was just telling her to get lost." Mia snapped back at me. "Don't be so mean, Mia. She's the funny one." Her friend laughed. Mia groaned and looked down. "It was nice meeting you, Mia. Sorry I bumped into you." I brushed it off and Mia looked back at me in shock. I smiled and walked away.
Retro and I walked together to class. "How'd it go?" She asked. "I hate my news segment. I only have to do it because I foolishly took film class!" I groaned. "At least you got out of gym." She shrugged. "I think I'd prefer gym at this point. People are starting to recognize me now. Mia even said I was popular." I explained. "What's wrong with that? I'm popular, and it's not a huge deal." She shrugged. "You're the volleyball captain. That's different." I spat. "Well what did you say when her friends showed up?" She asked. "I pretended I didn't know her. Her friends seemed to like me, but she was embarrassed so..." I shrugged. Retro smiled. "You did the right thing. If that doesn't make her like you a little, then I don't know what will." She laughed.
