Cleo's POV
Kat told me she was staying here now, and that she would need a ride to the matrix, so I was happy to help. What I didn't know was that she was bringing a kid with her. "Who is that?" I asked. "This is my cousin, Ritz. My aunt is having her stay here for a couple years, because it'll be easier to avoid the marriage death threat. I need Zephyr to put her in the system as my family so that she'll have extra protection." Kat explained. "Got it. Nice to meet you!" I waved. Ritz huffed and got in the car. Kat got in the passenger seat. "She's a ray of sunshine." I grumbled. "You have no idea. She's been like this for hours." Kat nodded in agreement. "Well, don't get your hopes up for Zephyr. It'll probably be Zane. Gypsy still hasn't woken up, and Zephyr won't leave her side." I explained. "That's awful. It's been what? Almost two months now?" She asked, and I nodded. "Zephyr has seen better days. That's for sure." I sighed.
When we arrived, Zane greeted us with a flashy smile. "Hey girls! This your cousin you called about?" He asked. "Yes! This is Ritz." Kat nodded. "Do you have my stick?" I asked. "Yes! The tests have been completed. One of my new assistants will help you with it... please be nice." He whispered the last part and I raised an eyebrow. "Hey speedy! I need one of you!" Zane shouted, and Lucas sped up beside him. "Yeah?" He asked. "Take Cleo to her staff while I help Kat, please." Zane instructed. "You got it boss." Lucas nodded and waved for me to follow him. I smiled and ran up beside him. "You guys work here now?" I asked. "It's the least we can do after all the trouble we caused." Lucas sighed. "That's great." I replied.
He brought me to the weapons lab, where I gave them my staff to run tests on, since I don't know everything it can do. "So, did you find anything good?" I asked. "Yes! You know about the electricity, obviously, but we found two other buttons that do different things. This one here extends a short blade so you can use it as a spear!" Lucas picked it up and showed me. "Cool." I smiled. "And then there's this black button on the side, that does this!" He pressed it and threw the staff onto the ground. Before it hit the ground, it transformed into what looked like a skateboard without wheels. I only knew it could become a bracelet, because that's how I carry it, but this was new. "What is that?" I asked. "It's a hover board. Get on it." He gestured for me to try it. I hesitated, but then stepped forward onto the board. It floated up off the ground and I wobbled backwards. Lucas caught me as I fell, and the board dropped. "Woah!" I exclaimed. "Cool right?" He asked. "Yeah! That's awesome! Thank you so much!" I smiled, and he nodded. "Happy to help." He replied.
As I left the weapons lab, and put my staff around my wrist as a bracelet, I passed the medical room. I stopped when I saw Zephyr in the window, and walked over to her. "Hey. Anything new?" I asked. She didn't bother to look at me. "No." She mumbled. I looked at Gypsy laying in the bed, and then at Zephyr again. It's not fair that she has to suffer like this. I clenched my fists and stormed out of the room. Then I grabbed my phone and called Alex. "Hello Cleo! To what do I owe the surprise of your call?" She asked. "Come to me now. I need your help." I hung up. A portal opened in front of me, and she stepped out. "Are you alright?" She asked. I pointed back at the medical room. "Wake her up." I ordered. Alex was taken back. "I can't." She replied. "Yes you can. You're a goddess, aren't you? So wake her up, now!" I yelled. Alex frowned. "It's not my place, Cleo." She said. "Bullshit! We're friends aren't we? You have everyone eating out of the palm of your blessed hand! So do something good with all that power and just wake her up!" I snapped. Alex's eyes softened and she dropped her head. "Your words are hurtful, Cleo." She mumbled. "Hurtful? Gypsy's in a fucking coma! And if you really were a goddess, you'd help her!" I yelled. "I can't!" Alex shouted, and I trembled under her voice. The building shook with her scream, and it echoed across the entire matrix. Zephyr ran out to see what had happened and stopped, seeing Alex. Then Alex took a deep breath and opened a portal. "How dare you belittle me, Cleo. I am still a person." She snapped, and left through the portal. "What did you just do?" Zephyr asked. My ears drooped down and I stood up straight. "I... hurt my friend." I frowned. "You need to make this right, now! Having a goddess mad at us is not what we need! Stop being so damn stubborn, Cleo! If you continue to act this way with her, we will all be in peril! Now go!" She ordered, and I nodded. "Yes ma'am." I pouted.
I banged on Marlow's door. She opened it with wired eyes. "What did you do?!" She shouted. "I messed up." My ears drooped down and my tail tucked between my legs. "Yeah! You did! Alex is spiraling, and Lemmy and Cal are freaking out! Come on!" Marlow snatched my arm and dragged me to her car. "Where are we going?" I asked. "I'm taking you to their house. There's a portal inside that will bring you to hell, and there you can talk to Alex in person." She explained. "Hell?! Like, the actual underworld?!" I shrieked. "Yes! Are you seriously so dense that you still can't see it?! They're goddesses, Cleo! They really are!" Marlow shouted. My eyes widened and I sat down in the car. "I... I believe you." I admitted. "Are you sure? Because I don't have time for you to guess." She spat. I nodded and looked back over at her. "I believe you." I repeated, and she nodded. "Let's go, then." She started the car and we took off.
Marlow kicked down the front door and dragged me into the hallway. Then she opened a door that became a portal, and shoved me into it. I fell backwards on my ass, and yelped as I crushed my tail. The Fates looked over in shock. "What are you doing here?" Cal asked. "Uh... I'm here to apologize?" I smiled nervously. "Apologize?! Come here you mutt!" Lemmy pounced on me, and Marlow came in just in time to grab her. "Babe stop! Please!" She begged. "Let me go, Marlow! I'm skinning that dog!" Lemmy shouted, and her voice boomed the same way that Alex's did. "Ah! I didn't even know you could talk!" I shrieked, and ran back behind Cal. "Leave her be, Lem. Cleo, I admire your swiftness in getting here, but Alex does not want to see you, and unless you want today to be your last, I'd suggest you leave." Cal said. "No! She can kill me! Or cut my string! Or whatever it is that you guys do! I just have to apologize." I replied. Cal sighed and shook her head. "Let her go. Alex will kill her and I'll still be satisfied." Lemmy snarled. "That's dark, Lem. Cut it out." Cal waved her off. Then she pointed to a door in the corner. "Down the hall. She's in the seeing room. Good luck." She said. I gulped and walked to the door.
The hallway was empty except for one door at the very end, and when I walked in, the room was completely black. All the walls, the floor, and the ceiling were all black. Alex sat on a stool, just staring at the wall. "Alex?" I asked. Her head snapped over at me, and her eyes were glowing pure white. "What are you doing here?!" She yelled, and the room changed to be completely white. My eyes widened, and I froze. "I... I uh... you... I'm sorry." I squeaked. "Sorry? You're SORRY?!" She stood up and kicked the stool aside. I gulped nervously, but my body wouldn't let me move. I just stood there and shook in fear. "Who do you think I am, Cleo? Just some all powerful spirit that you can call upon whenever you need something?! A soulless being that doesn't have any emotions at all?!" She snapped. She came right up in front of me and glared into my skull. I squeezed my eyes shut and looked aside. "No. You're a goddess! You're an immortal being that can do anything! But you're also a beautiful young woman, that I hurt the feelings of, and I'm so so sorry!" I exclaimed. The glow from Alex's eyes faded and I peeked mine open at her. "You... believe?" She asked. "Mhm." I hummed and nodded. She took a step back and I exhaled in relief. "I can't do everything, Cleo. I'm not a high goddess. In fact, I'm one of the most disliked gods in existence, even among the other immortals." She explained. "I'm sorry I snapped at you, Alex. I was just sad for Zephyr. It's not fair that she has to suffer." I said. Alex blinked at me. "I can't temper with time, Cleo. That's dangerous, even for a god. Besides, I don't need to wake Gypsy up. She'll wake up on her own in two days." She told me. "Wait, really?" My eyebrows shot up. "Yes, but you can't tell anyone that." She pointed at me and I nodded rapidly. "Will you please forgive me, Alex. I know I don't have any cattle to sacrifice to you like the Greeks did, but will you please forgive me?" I smiled. She laughed a little and put her hand on my shoulder. "Who needs cattle when I have a sheep dog?" She smiled at me. My tail wagged and I hugged her. "I won't ever take our friendship for granted again." I promised. "I know you won't." She replied.
