Suspicious Sister

Kara's POV
When the weekend rolled around, mom officially announced that she was going to pick up our new sister. "What if she's ugly? I already have to bear the scab of being related to you." Santana scoffed. "You're an awful person." I noted. She laughed a little. "I know." She chuckled. The front door opened, and Santana and I immediately looked at each other. Then mom came in and smiled at us. "Good! You're here. Santana, Kara, this is Amber." Apollo gestured to the doorway as Aurelia came in with the girl. Amber was short, with thick red hair, and hazel eyes. "Ew. You brought home a ginger?" Santana asked, and I kicked her leg. "Hi! It's nice to meet you." I walked over to Amber. She smiled nervously. "You too." She replied. "So how come you're an orphan?" Santana asked. "Santana!" Aurelia snapped. "She's just like that sometimes. Don't take it personally." I said, and Amber smiled. "Santana, go get Charlie. Here Amber. We'll show you around the house." Aurelia smiled.

Amber didn't speak much. She just smiled and nodded to everything. She also studied our appearances a lot. I kept catching her looking over us like models. "And this is Charlie. He's my best friend, and kind-of parent. He lives in the basement." Apollo introduced them. "By choice! I'm not weird, and it's a nice basement." Charlie added. Amber giggled a little right as Santana ran in behind us. "Guys! Problem. Help please." She waved me away. I walked over to her, and she pulled me behind a wall. "Lizz has been calling you. I guess one of Gypsy's re-built dinotrons didn't reprogram correctly, and she can't get it to stop rampaging. The Arrows are all busy with work and their own missions, and our friends can't hold it back without us." She explained. My eyes widened and I panicked. I peeked my head back around the wall. "Hey mom? Santana and I might need your help with a uh... prehistoric issue." I said. Charlie, Apollo, and Aurelia all looked horrified when I said that, and Amber tilted her head in confusion. "Oh. You guys are superheroes?" She asked. We all looked at her in confusion. "Crap. I mean... dammit." She mumbled. "Why would you think that?" I asked. "I'm not from Florida, so I just did some research before coming here... you're on the news a lot, assuming I'm right." Amber explained. "You seem very calm for just having learned that." Santana noted. Amber just shrugged and we raised an eyebrow. "Ok! Charlie, stay here and start explaining. We'll handle the dinotron." Aurelia groaned. "I'm so sorry, Amber. We'll explain everything when we're back!" Apollo smiled, and joined us.

Blaire, Cleo, and Lizz were already there, and were doing their best to keep the dinotron at bay. Lizz's power alone though, wasn't enough to hold the beast still. Apollo and I dropped down beside her and started helping to keep it still. "You brought your parents? I figured they'd be at work." Lizz admitted. "The girl came today, remember?" I replied. "Oh! That's nice!" Lizz groaned in pain. Blaire flew up around the dinotrons head so she could freeze its jaw shut, and Santana flew in to help her. "Spark Hound! Have you tried electrocuting it?" Aurelia asked. "Yeah! But all that did was charge its battery! My staff doesn't have enough power to actually hurt it." Cleo explained. "Babe! A little help!" Apollo groaned, and Aurelia ran over to help us hold it. "Sparky, you have to do something!" Santana yelled. "I can't! Gypsy is too good at her job!" Cleo snapped. Luckily, a portal opened above us just then. "Did you call Alex?" I asked, and Cleo shook her head. "That's not a hell portal. I've never seen one that looks like that." She replied. A girl dropped through the portal, wielding a long metal pole with pointed ends. She wore a silver hood and a black mask. Cleo extended the blade on her staff and pointed it at her. "Who are you?" She asked. The girl didn't answer. She just sprung up into the air, far above the dinotron's head, and shot her pole down between its eyes. It pierced right through the metal, and the second it made contact, a thunderous bolt of lightning shot down at the dinotron, ripping a perfectly circular hole into its head. We all let go as our jaws dropped in shock. The girl fell back to the ground and opened her hand. The pole flew back to her palm, and she smiled at us. "I'm Shock Wave, and you're welcome." She spun her stick around in a circle, and a new portal opened behind her. Then she left just as fast as she came.

I told Lizz about Amber on the way home, and she got very concerned. Then when we got back, my moms ran into the dining room where they had left her with Charlie. They were sitting at the table together and Amber looked extremely confused. "Oh good! You're still here." Apollo exhaled in relief. "You died?" Amber asked. "I died? Damn Charlie! We were gone for like fifteen minutes! How'd you get that far?!" She shrieked. "Amber, this is Lizz. She's Charlie's daughter, and my wife." I introduced them. "Wife?!" Amber exclaimed. "Oh- not that far, apparently." Apollo laughed. Charlie rolled his eyes. "Yeah, and I'm not buying this. There's no way in hell that you get brought here today and just automatically suspect we're superheroes, on the same day that some masked electric girl comes out of the blue to help us." Lizz spat. "She's been here with me the whole time, Lizz. Calm down." Charlie said. "Oh I don't doubt that, but this is still suspicious. How could she have known you were heroes and not just weirdos? How did that other girl know we were in trouble? Aurelia, you're the smart one here. Just hear me out. You all agreed that David was capable of putting another two teens under his rule. Well what if this is them?" Lizz asked. "You think I'm stupid?" I asked, and she waved me off. "Usually I'd agree with you, Lizz, but I can't with this. In fact, I'm offended that you would attack Amber before you've even heard her out." Aurelia snapped. We all turned to Amber and she gulped.

"I swear I don't know what you're talking about. I don't know any Davids, and I'm not trying to fool you." She said. Lizz crossed her arms. "I'm so sorry, Amber. We never meant to ambush you." Apollo told her. "It's ok. It's not the worst reaction I've seen. Every place I've gone, I always end up revealing family secrets within the first ten minutes. The therapist at the home says that I pay too much attention to details. I'm sorry." Amber explained. My moms walked to her. "There's nothing wrong with being observant, Amber, and as long as you don't tell anyone our secret identities, you'll never have any problems here. I promise it's not always this hectic." Aurelia told her. "And ignore what Lizz is saying. We're happy you're here." Apollo added. Amber smiled and looked over at Lizz. "I'm sorry about Shock Wave. She likes to make an entrance." She shrugged. We all went stiff, and Amber panicked. "You know her?" Lizz asked. Amber started to sweat. "She was a hero in my last city, and I guess she saved me a few times... and she's my girlfriend." She mumbled. We all just stared at her for a moment. "You just had to be gay? I can't escape you gay people!" Santana groaned.

Charlie stood up, grabbed Lizz by the arm and dragged her away before she said anything else. "Listen, Amber. You don't have to tell us anything. I'm sure you have a lot going on in your head right now after figuring this out, and we don't want to push anything out of you." Aurelia said. "What?! You once threw me off the roof because I wouldn't admit that I skipped school!" Santana shrieked. "And you never lied again. What's your point?" Mom asked. Amber just stared at us blankly and blinked a few times. "Are you ok?" I asked. She shut her eyes and shook her head to snap out of her trance. "Yes. Sorry." She smiled. "Come on. We'll show you the basement." Apollo waved for her to follow her. "And then we can introduce you to our friends if you want." I suggested. "What? No! Cleo's in heat. I don't wanna be near her right now." Santana pouted. "Well she's not the one being moody, so I don't see the problem." I huffed, and Santana rolled her eyes.
