Dylan's POV
Retro seemed stressed when she came back. Ella wasn't with her, and when she went to their room, she stopped. Retro wouldn't walk in. She just put her hands on the doorframe and leaned against it. I slowly walked over to her. "Didn't go well?" I asked. "No it did not." She panted. Her breathing was unsteady. I thought she might cry. "Where's Cyan?" I asked. "With her mom." Retro looked up at me and I raised an eyebrow. "I really messed up this time, Dyl." She sighed. I wrapped my arm around her shoulder. "Come on. Tell me what happened." I brought her to my room.
"Lila let her have it, and I did nothing! I should have said something. Stood up for her! But I just stood there like an idiot, watching it happen. Watching her crack under the pressure. And the worst part is, I created some of that pressure. I never should have asked for her siblings." Retro complained. She paced the floor in my room while I sat on my bed. "What makes you think they'd be good Arrows anyway? Mia and Josh are too young, and Lila hates us all. There are better candidates, Retro." I said. "Fuck candidates! I don't care about that right now! Ella is mad at me and I don't know how to make it up to her! She was so upset, man. What do I do?" She whined. Retro face planted onto my bed and groaned in annoyance. "Aren't you dating?" I raised an eyebrow. "What?!" She sprung up. "What? I thought you were." I shrugged. "Does everyone think that?" She asked. I just stared at her. "Um... maybe you should just apologize." I couldn't answer that question. Retro groaned and sat up right. "It's not that simple. Ella is stubborn. She'll never listen, and even if she did, she'd never believe me!" She exclaimed. I laughed a little. "Then give her no choice. You share a room. Trap her in there until she forgives you." I suggested. Retro raised an eyebrow. "That's mean." She huffed. I shrugged. "That didn't seem to matter to you before." I replied. Retro sighed heavily. "I hate you sometimes." She groaned. "You're welcome." I smiled.
Addison and I went to the arcade to meet our friend. She didn't seem very happy to be meeting with us though, not that that's anything new. "You don't have to pay for me, Dylan. I can handle myself." She told me. "I know you can, Riley. Just let me be nice, ok?" I smiled. Riley just blinked at me. "You're not nice though." She said. "Why does everyone keep telling me that?" I asked. "Let me guess. Retro?" Riley asked. I nodded. "She's worse." She said. "How have you been, Riley?" Addison asked. "Fine. I'm making payments on time. I'd say that's an improvement." Riley shrugged. Riley lives alone, without anyone to take care of her, and she's The Arrows number one charity case. She brought a gun to school a few years ago, and ever since, we've kept tabs on her. She's a nice enough person, but anyone can tell she's been through hell. Retro and I have been trying to get her to talk about it, but she's tough to crack. Which is exactly why I think she should join our team. "Is the faucet still leaking?" I asked. "I fixed it... temporarily. God knows it'll break again, cause everything in that place is going to shit." Riley groaned. "You can fix pipes?" Addison asked. "Yeah. I can fix a lot of things." Riley shrugged. "Can you change my flat tire?" Addy asked. "Twenty bucks." Riley replied. "Deal." Addy smiled. "Can we play? Please?" I asked. Riley snatched the play card from my hand and walked away.
Ella's POV
My mom drove me home and I was hesitant to go back to my room. I knew what Retro would do, and I wasn't ready to talk to her. "Cyan! You're back!" Sean ran over to me. "Yes! I'm back. What can I help you with?" I happily walked with him. Anything to keep me away from Retro. "I have something I really need to say, but I need to talk it over with Orange. Have you seen her?" He asked. I just stared at him for a second. "Uh huh. She's in her room." I pointed to the door. "Really? Has she been there all day? I swear she disappeared earlier." He said. I sighed. "She's trying to trap me." I explained. "Again? What happened this time?" He asked. "She asked me to ask my siblings to join." I answered. He frowned. "I assume that went poorly?" He asked. "Very." I sighed and took a deep breath. "I'll talk to her, and send her to you." I said. "You don't have to right now. Not if you're upset." He shook his head. "No, I shouldn't avoid it. Wish me luck." I sighed and went to my room.
I closed the door and muted the room. Then I took a deep breath before I turned around. "Save the apologies. I don't want to hear it." I said. Retro sat on her bed, staring at me. "I know. I was wrong, Ella. It was stupid of me to think that they'd change their minds. It was stupid of me to have you ask when I knew how it'd end. I should have stood up for you when Lila targeted you, and I'm sorry. I shouldn't have gotten so... so..." She sighed. "Hot headed? Overconfident? Empowered?" I asked. She frowned. "All of the above." She nodded. I sighed and walked over to her. Then I sat down beside her. "You are our leader, Retro. I will follow you into fire every single time, but you need to realize that not all of us are superhuman like you. Not all of us are the child of a God. Just because you don't burn, doesn't mean we won't. So either avoid the fire, or shield us on the way through." I told her. Retro smiled softly. "It won't happen again. I promise." She said. "Mhm. I know it won't. Sean wants to see you." I replied. "Ok. Come with me then." She said. "He asked for you." I specified. "I may be the leader, but I can't do it without you, Ella. You keep me in line." She smiled. I chuckled a little. "Alright. Let's go." I agreed.
We knocked on his door. "What? -Oh! Both of you? Ok uh... come in." Sean hesitantly stepped aside. "She dragged me." I shrugged. "You have something to tell me?" Retro asked. "Yes! Well... it's technically for everyone, but I figured I'd start with you." He smiled nervously. "Is something wrong?" Retro raised an eyebrow. "No! I um... here." He handed her a paper and she scanned it over. "You changed your name?" She asked. I peeked over at the paper and my eyes widened in shock. "Read the bottom." I pointed. Retro looked back down and her jaw dropped. "You changed your gender?!" Retro shrieked. "A few months ago, yeah. The voice? The new wardrobe? You didn't notice?" She asked. "Sky, huh? Why Sky?" I asked. Sky shrugged. "I liked it." She replied. "That's a really common name. Kinda boring." Retro smiled. "Are you really shitting on my name choice?" Sky asked. "Yes, I am. Because you're my friend. Regardless of what's between your legs. Thanks for telling me, Sky. Do you want me to call out the others so you can tell them?" Retro asked. "Not yet. I'm still freaking out about all of this and... I just need a minute." She said. "No problem. Your secret is safe with us." I smiled. "Thanks girls." Sky smiled back. "You better come up with a good excuse for Connor and Max, cause now they're two to six!" Retro laughed. Sky sighed heavily. "Yeah, I know." She chuckled.
