Kat's POV
Quinn had us stay at her family's safe house. "Won't Sash know we're here?" I asked. "Yep. That's part of the plan. All we need now is a source of natural electricity to attack her with. I can handle the rest from there." She nodded. "You can handle it? I thought I was supposed to be helping you." I crossed my arms. "Casey and Cory will help me as they always do. It's part of our job to deal with traitors. You will help by being the bait. I'm not going to put you in danger, and besides, the less you need from me, the better." Quinn snapped. I was taken back. "Oh... ok." I frowned. "Casey! How's the weather looking? You think we can channel lightning from a storm?" Quinn walked away like it meant nothing. "Nope! Well, yes we could. It wouldn't be the first time! But there are no storms incoming." Casey shrugged. "Quinn, I promised you that I would help, and you're not letting me! Let me make you a storm! I have that power!" I exclaimed. "You heard Katherine. It needs to be real electricity. Not magic made." Quinn snapped. "So then it won't be. I can magically make lightning, yes, but I can also force the molecular compounds in the sky to make a thunder storm naturally." I explained. Quinn just stared at me for a moment, and then groaned in annoyance. "Fine! How long will it take you to do that?" She asked. "I don't know. I've never done it before." I shrugged. "You've never- ugh. Nevermind. You'll have to wait until after I can bait Sash here. Casey, go tend to her like one of her mindless drones, and casually drop that we're here. I'll have your brother stand guard." Quinn ordered, and Casey nodded. "Why aren't you guys under her spell?" I asked, confused. "She only reached out to the mafia officials. Cory and I are kiddets." Casey shrugged and took off.
That night, Cory stood outside on patrol, while Quinn and I sat inside. "You really trust them?" I asked. "They're my best friends. They would never wrong me." Quinn replied. "Not in their right minds. You and I both saw what Sash did. She took control of everyone at that party, and almost you too! Regardless of how much your friends hate her, they could still be under her spell." I snapped. Quinn turned to me. "Then why would they help us?" She asked. "To trick you. Anyone can act, Quinn." I huffed. "Kat, I don't need your opinion on my friends, ok?" She tried to walk away and I grabbed her shoulder. "Hey! What gives? I thought we were getting along. I thought we were kinda... friends." I admitted. Her eyes widened, and she pulled her shoulder away. "So did I, but now I see the truth. I can have everything I ever wanted, or I can have you. Forgive me for making the right choice." She spat. My eyebrows shot up. "Ok. Maybe I can understand that, but it doesn't mean you have to be so cold!" I snapped back. Quinn clenched her fists. "Yes it does, and that's how I know you'll never understand." She replied. I took a deep breath and sighed. "Fine, but you have to believe me. Sash already knows we're here. She's probably coming to attack us in the night. Your bait plan will fail." I said. Quinn stared at me for a moment. "Alright then. If you're so sure of that, then what would you have us do?" She asked. I smiled. "So glad you asked. Follow me." I led her to the backyard, and she followed.
"You're going to stir up the storm early?" Quinn asked. I held my hands up to the sky, and focused as hard as I could to move the clouds. "Now's not the time to question me! This is harder than it looks." I groaned, and shifted in my stance. "I assume that's why you look constipated?" Quinn smirked, and I whined in pain. "Come on. Come on." My hands started to glow brighter as I pushed harder. My muscles tensed and I swear my veins could have popped out. Luckily though, a rain drop fell onto my arm, and I exhaled in relief. Then I let go of the storm and collapsed in exhaustion. Quinn was taken back, and hesitated as she stared at me. Then she groaned to herself and held out her hand to me. "Are you alright?" She asked. I panted for breath and glanced up at her. Light started flashing in the clouds above us, and I took her hand. She pulled me up and we looked towards the sky. "Impressive. Let's get inside before it starts pouring on us." Quinn let go of my hand and went inside.
I ran in after her and followed her to the bedroom. "Woah! Why are you in here?" She asked, confused. "Sash is on her way, Quinn. The storm was only the first part of my plan. Now, you're going to get into that bed with me, and we're gonna fake being a couple. Kay?" I snapped. She just blinked at me. "Ok." She mumbled. "Make sure your gun is loaded, and within reach. You'll need it." I walked around to the other side of the bed, slipped my shoes off, and got under the blanket. Quinn very hesitantly slid in beside me and we laid down, facing each other. "You talked to yourself, didn't you?" I asked. Quinn just stared at me and I sighed. "I don't know what she told you, but she is the opposite of you, Quinn. You won't end up like her." I assured her. Still, she remained silent, and just glanced away. I furrowed my brow. "You know, I've read about humans being able to break out of magical curses with their own strength, but I've never seen it with my own eyes, or seen it recorded. Do you know how strong you must be if you were able to break away from Sash in less than a minute? You're probably the strongest human I know, and that's saying something coming from me." I admitted. Her eyes met mine again and she sighed. "Everyone she loved is dead. Everyone but you. I don't want anyone to die, and I don't want to say goodbye to you, but I won't lose everything just to save you." She explained. I sighed and looked down. "You don't have to worry about me, and I promise you won't lose your family. And just while we're being honest, I don't want to say goodbye to you either." I replied. She smiled softly. "Don't tell me I gave you Stockholm syndrome." She laughed, and I chuckled. "Nah. If I wanted to leave, I'd be gone already. Remember, you're helping me too." I reminded her. "Yes I know. I'm your death cheat." She sighed. "Yeah, but it's also nice to have someone different. I see two versions everyone, all the time! But there's one of you in my life, and that's everything I ever needed." I smiled. Quinn smiled back and shook her head. "You are so weird." She admitted. I sighed. "Tell me about it." I groaned, and we laughed.
Just then, Sash burst down our door. "Seriously? What is this happy couple bullshit that you two are playing?! I know it's fake. Why are you still putting up the act?!" She snapped. We sat up in bed and Quinn grabbed her gun. "Because maybe, it's not an act!" She shot at her and Sash swiftly caught the bullet. "Ok that's impressive." Quinn looked at me and I rolled my eyes. "I can do it too." I frowned. "I didn't say she was better than you, kitty Kat." She smirked, and I smiled. "Thanks Quinny." I replied. Sash gagged. "Your lesbianism is sickening." She groaned. Then she held out her hand to blast at me, and I quickly transformed to my ferret form. The blast hit the wall, and Quinn jumped out of the bed. I teleported her shoes back on and jumped onto her shoulder. "Now's the time to run!" I reminded her. "She's in the doorway!" Quinn groaned. "You need a doorway?" I snapped, and looked over at the window. My eyes started glowing as I shattered it with a single blast. "That works!" Quinn hopped out the window and ran into the backyard. Sash didn't follow us though. I jumped down and transformed back in confusion. "Where did she go?" I asked, seeing that she wasn't in the bedroom anymore. "I don't- ah!" Quinn yelped and I spun around. A dog had bitten her ankle. "Fuck! Cory get off of me!" She grabbed him by the back of the neck and threw him away from us. "I told you so!" I yelled. "Not the time, kitty Kat!" Quinn snapped. "See, now I'm not liking that name." I huffed. "Kinda the point! Look out!" Quinn shoved me to the side and punched Casey away from us. Casey came back though, and tackled Quinn to the ground. "This is just part of her plan! She wants you to hurt your friends!" I exclaimed. "Well, do you have any better ideas?!" Quinn asked, as she pinned Casey down. "Yes actually!" I replied. I used my magic to create a cage, and opened it. Then I shapeshifted into a dog and barked at Quinn. "Got it! Hey Cory! Hey boy!" She whistled for him, and he bolted back after me. I snapped at his tail to aggravate him, and then bolted towards the cage. He ran after me, and Casey transformed to run after him. "It's a trap you idiot!" She yelled. Cory kept after me though. I ran into the cage, and they both came in behind me. "No where to run now, rodent." Cory snarled. Quinn closed the door behind them and locked us in. Then I stuck out my tongue at them and teleported out of the cage. "Fuck! Hey! I am not your pet!" Casey barked. "Nope, but you're alive!" Quinn laughed. I transformed back and we high-fived. "Thanks Kat." She said. I nodded in response.
