"Luke," I gasp.
This cannot be happening.
"Jade?" he asks, moving closer to me.
"Get away from me," I choke, pushing past him.
"Jade let me talk to you," he begs, gripping my arm.
"Leave me alone. I told you I never wanted to see you again," I cry, retreating from the conversation and running back to where Harry is standing.
I brush my hair out of my face feeling flustered and annoyed. I don't make eye contact with Harry in case he realises i'm upset.
"Can't say that rejection didn't sting," Harry mumbles.
"Sorry, I'm just...I don't know," I stutter, my head's all over the place. "I think I'm gonna go," I say, trying to squeeze by the crowd of people blocking my path.
Luke's face keeps appearing in my head. My arm tingling where he touched it.
"Wait Jade," Harry shouts, attempting to follow me.
I continue, looking at my feet as I rush away and round to the front of the building. I stop in my tracks, as I see two people stood against the wall as I come round the corner.
"Niall-"
I peek around to look again. Niall's lent against the wall, a girl next to him, but I can't see her face.
She stands on her tiptoes, brushing her hair out of her face and they kiss. Only when the kiss ends do I get to see that it's Cara.
-----------
I feel that spark of jealousy relighting again and I just walk as fast as I can back to my flat. The last thing I need is those two finding out I just saw that.
As I turn the key in the door, it's already open so I'm guessing Vanessa's home early.
"Nessa?" I call out as I enter the living room.
She's laying on Louis' chest, fast asleep entangled in his arms as he lets out a soft snore himself. I decide to retreat to my room.
However, it's not long before Vanessa walks in, a look of worry plastered on her face.
"Whats wrong?" she asks, sitting down next to me on my bed.
"Nothing, it doesn't matter. It's pretty stupid," I mutter, wiping my eyes.
"It can't be stupid if its making you cry," Vanessa smiles sympathetically, handing me a box of tissues she keeps by her bed.
"I know but it feels stupid so i'd rather not talk about it right now if you don't mind," I sniff, wiping my eyes.
"Ok, let me know when you want to and I'll be here," she beams and joins Louis back on the sofa.
Afterwards, Louis decides he should go but Vanessa says she'll stay over at his place because I need space and in all honesty I do. I'm not used to having other people in my room when i'm sad, it's where I used to go when I needed to cry in private. You don't really get a lot of privacy at Uni.
It's not long before that space is fulfilled and Lucy comes knocking looking excited.
"Hey! I have big news where's Nessa?" she asks, rushing in and sitting on my bed.
"She's at Louis'. What's happened?" say, trying my best to sound enthusiastic.
I am really not in the mood to enjoy other people's happiness right now.
"Niall and Cara! She just told me they kissed! She's liked him for so long. This is so good, I'm so happy for her," she basically yells.
"Is everything alright?" Lucy asks, noticing the blank expression on my face.
"Yeah sorry. That's really great," I smile half-heartedly but she's too drunk to realise.
"Well, i'm gonna go anyway, I can't be missing this party, there are a lot of single boys down there calling my name so i'll see you later," Lucy calls, racing out of our flat.
She's finally gone. Just as I'm drifting off to sleep, there comes another visitor and I have to get up to answer the door. This visitor's even worse than Lucy.
"Hey are you alright?" His voice says.
"Yeah, if you're looking for Louis he's with Vanessa," I say.
"Uh no actually I came to find you. Can I come in?" he asks, still stood in the hallway.
I hold the door open wider in reply.
"Thanks," he says, making his way to the sofa.
"So what brings you here?" I question, "shouldn't you be getting drunk with Harry?"
"Vanessa told me you're upset about something. I just wanted to know if there was anything I could do to help? You shouldn't be up here upset you should be with us at the party. They're doing beer pong?" he smiles.
Why is he so nice when we've only just met? This just makes him all the more attractive.
NIALLS POV
She looks so upset, her pretty eyes glossy and red from tears.
"I don't know if you'll be able to help," she breathes, joining me on the sofa.
"Try me," I say.
She hesitates for a moment, probably debating whether to tell me or not.
"There was this boy called Luke. We were a couple for about a year where I used to live. I loved him I guess, but he didn't love me it seems. He cheated on me when it was our 6 month anniversary. I thought he was something special but apparently not," she explains, tears brimming in her eyes.
I reach out and lay my hand on top of hers, gently rubbing my thumb along the back of her hand.
"You don't have to carry on-"
"I bumped into him at the party. It brought everything back. I totally forgot he was applying here so I freaked out and left," she says, a tear rolling down her cheek but she hastily brushes it away.
"Don't cry over him. He obviously didn't know what he had until he lost it," I tell her, rubbing her arm.
"He didn't have much to lose Niall," she laughs, shrugging her shoulders.
"Believe me he did," I mutter.
That cute little smile of hers breaks through, small dimples appearing on each side of her mouth.
"Thank you Niall," she says, wiping under her eyes.
"It's fine," I mumble, moving slightly closer to her.
