Chapter Seventy- Eight

"Yanis let me expl-" Xavier begins to say but is cut off by Fury and I.

"Shut the fuck up!" We both yell at him his mouth closing immediately.

"Explain now." I grit murderously keeping my eyes locked on Fury.

"When we brought him in we ran tests on him, let me ask you this didn't you think it was weird how suddenly he changed. How suddenly the man you worked with, the man you were friends with just snap changed like that?"

"Obviously. But people change and sometimes it's not for the better." I shoot Xavier a dirty side glance.

"Think Yanis, get past your anger and think, when did things start to change?"

"When he sold me out." I answer.

"And that wasn't like me either!" He yells out unable to restrain himself. I don't look as I shoot him in the leg still keeping my eyes on Fury who looks shocked.

"Fucking hell, you shot me!"

"Yanis! Control yourself!"

"I told you shut the fuck up. Next peep out of you and you can see how my dagger tastes when I cut out your tongue."

He swallows hard clutching his leg and towel.

"They were controlling him Yanis, like he tried to do to you." His words settle in and I clench my jaw pushing the dagger up against Fury's throat again keeping the gun fixed on Xavier.

"And how am I supposed to know you're not just being mind controlled to say this?"

He reaches into his pocket and takes out his phone. Within a minute Maria is entering the room with equipment some of which I can recognize thanks to Tony. Maria shows me how it works and what things mean what. Keeping my gun drawn on Xavier I sheathe my knife and FaceTime Tony just to be sure I'm not being tricked. He confusedly confirms everything is as it should be and any results could not be tampered with. I hang up and turn away from Fury slowly walking up to Xavier still pointing the gun at him.

"How did they get into your head when you don't have the same kind of device implanted that I do?"

He stutters at first afraid to be shot for talking again, "th-they had multiple ways, the only way they could get into your head was by the device. I'm not as strong, they went in with no problems whatsoever with me." He mutters ashamed.

"I won't pretend like I wasn't jealous when you found your mates, I won't pretend like when they made me tell you that I love you that I didn't mean it. You're a dream girl. Who wouldn't love you? But it's because I loved you, love you, so much that I would never do anything to jeopardize you or your happiness. If there's anyone who deserves happiness in this world it's you Yanis." I search his eyes for any sign of a lie any sign of betrayal and I can see only love and sadness.

"If you screw me over again, mind control or not I will kill you."

"I wouldn't have it any other way." He agrees. I tuck my gun away and sing pulling water from the air and healing him. He breathes a sigh of relief and goes to hug me. I hold out my hand stopping him.

"I don't think I'm ready for that. Plus you're basically naked." He smiles stepping back.

"Sorry."

"You get dressed and I'll explain the mission to Yanis." Fury says leading the way out of the room back into the hallway.

"So if you couldn't guess it yet you and Xavier are going to be finding these people and bringing them down without killing them."

"I honestly thought I killed them all when they kidnapped me and I melted their faces." I smirk proud.

"Obviously the guy you paralyzed has a lot of people willing to work for him even behind bars." I pucker my lips and look around, "you, uh know about that?" He looks at me with a raised eyebrow like of course I knew about that who do you think I am?

The door flies open and Xavier is standing there dressed in the hunting outfit he would wear when we were partners.

"Can't I do this alone?" I cross my arms.

"Clearly you've underestimated these people multiple times Yanis. You and Xavier know them the best and have experience with them. It only makes sense to pair you two together." He smirks.

"If you have a problem with it you can always go home." I roll my eyes and stomp away Xavier running to catch up to me.

"So where are we starting?" He asks. I don't answer as I bring us to a room filled with computers.

Xavier watches over my shoulder and I look back at him annoyed.

"Could I have some space?" He bites his lip and goes down a couple computers.

I feel him glancing at me but focus on what I need to get done and in a few minutes I have the name of the man I paralyzed and what prison he's in. I walk out of the room not waiting for Xavier and he runs to catch up with me again.

"Why are you still mad at me? I wasn't in control just like when they made me make you choke your mate!"

I stop completely swiftly pulling out my dagger pressing his body to the wall and the dagger to his throat.

"I suggest you watch how you speak to me."

"You know it's true." He breathes out.

"Maybe so but it's not that easy after I spent so much time hating you." He flinches at my words.

"You're all I've got Yanis. You know what it's like to be mind controlled, it sucked for you but imagine what I went through. How lonely I was, am." I drop the knife and sigh.

"You saw your brother though, he's how I found you."

He chuckles, "for once him being a rat bastard paid off for me." I lightly chuckle before growing serious.

"I'm sorry."

His brows furrowed, "for what?"

"I'm all you've got and I didn't think twice. I didn't realize that my closest friend in the world wasn't himself." He puts his hand on my shoulder and I flinch causing him to drop it sadly.

"We're going to make them pay." He says clenching his fingers into a fist.

It may take a while for Xavier and I to heal, we never may, but if one thing is for sure these men will never know peace once I'm finished with them.
