Part 62: Test subjects

Dabi's POV:

I made my way around the lab. Tomura was currently discussing things with the former boss of the Meta Liberation Army. It is overall just Tomura getting to know the rules and everything and either keeping them or throwing them away, it's not like that Re-Destro man is going to do anything against him. 'He is so putty in his hands... it's so fucking weird.'

I rolled my eyes as I turned around another corner. As I did so I saw the small fat man stand in front of a big tank which looked almost ready. He didn't do anything, just standing there admiring his piece. 'Weirdo... anyway..' "Hey doc, I am here for the thing." He didn't answer so I repeated what I just said.

"I know I know... isn't it beautiful?" The man spoke as he didn't even make an attempt to move.

My eyes inspected the tank closely. A lot of wires and lights as well as buttons. Some other things as well of which I do not want to know the use. "Yeah..great." I didn't sound that interested but in my opinion that's because I am here for other business. "Where did you store the tanks?"

It was silent for a few moments before he turned around. "Downstairs with the other Nomu tanks. Though they are only stored and I did not, as promised, touch them in any way other than maintenance." He explained as he walked over to his moving chair with the small pet Nomu laying on the armrest.

After he sat down the chair moved and I just followed it. I needed to focus on my task to get it done as soon as possible. There are some things that need to be done regarding Eri and Hawks. 'That stupid bird has been blowing up my second phone.' I gave a groan. He really is pesky to deal with even if I allowed him to come to the celebration of the Paranormal Liberation Front. But I guess that's because I didn't really bother to have a conversation with him. 'But in my defense there were much more important things to do and I already talked with Tomura about it and he gets to meet him in a little while.'

We arrived at the tanks and some memories cane up as I saw the three half destroyed bodies floating in a light blue liquid. The girl with the mask and severed head, the tall cat boy and the other smaller one who had that weird shadow sword, at least that's how Toga described them. They were now in white suits or most of their body parts as well as full with wires, and the tanks had numbers and some other notes. My attention turned to the doctor "Anything you can say so far?"

"I would say good for what condition they were brought here. But I do have some concerns. Especially regarding her." He pointed with his stuck to the girl. "With all of them I never managed to stop the decaying process, I could only slow it down." He pointed now at the cat boy "He has lost almost his entire rip cage and the girl has almost no head left." He looked at me. "I think it was a waste of time and resources."

I gave a small shrug as I inspected the tanks, a faint idea was starting to form in my head. But I did not know if it was the best or if Tomura would even agree. 'But it would certainly give us more information and perhaps even clarity to what she can do.' "So what would you now do with them?"

He gave a small laugh as he pet Johnny. "You are asking me that?!...well in their condition the only thing they would be useful as is food for Nomus after I extract their quirks. Nothing more and nothing less." He looked over to me with his huge glasses refecting my image. "But I think you are planning something yourself, am I wrong?" He laughed at the end.

I stayed silent for a second. "What exactly are you to Tomura?" I asked. "Are you just his and AFO doctor who can create Nomus..or do you have some ulterior motives?"

I was met with silence. My hands in my pockets fiddled with themselves as I stared at the tanks. But as I was about to abandon my plan he spoke.

"If you see it that way then I don't really care. I swore loyalty to AFO and now that Tomura has passed my test I am loyal to him. I will give him power, Nomus and my full loyalty. But after all I am just a scientist looking to create the perfect human. I am just an ally, a pawn to Tomura if you want to say it like that, so nothing more or less than you."
