15th June 2012, It had been one month since I had found out about Neville cheating on me and right now, we had just come out of Divorce court. I had taken custody of the girls and now we were living in one of the Potter Properties that I owned in Scotland.
The girls were really upset and angry, but well, they'll come around.
I told the girls to sit in the car with Ginny since I needed to speak with Neville.
"Hey," I said as I tapped Neville's shoulder.
"H-Hey," He said sadly.
"You know just because we're not together anymore doesn't have to mean we have to act like strangers. I've known you for twenty years, you're important to me. And...I was hoping we could still be friends."
"Of course...I mean, I still want to be able to see my daughters...and that would mean having to maintain a friendship with you." He said, not meeting my eye.
"Excuse me!? You should be thankful I'm trying to forgive you at all!"
"Yeah but you're also taking the most important people in my life, my whole world, away from me!"
"Or from a man their father warned them about! Can't you see that Neville? You've always taught them to be cautious of men who break your heart...and then you became one of those men. So tell me, is it so wrong of me to keep my guard up?"
"I'm sorry, I just realized I sound like an absolute dick." He sighed before groaning into his hands, "I'm sorry, I hurt you...and I know this won't make anything better but...you're important to me too." He added.
"You know I love you, right?" I asked him with teary eyes.
"Still?"
"Yeah, but if you can't value my love...there's no point."
"I'm so sorry, Anne." He said before hugging me before I hugged him back, "I love you too, but I deserve this. You deserve someone better," He added as we pulled away.
"I'll see you around," I nodded before heading to the car with tears filling my eyes but I didn't dare let them spill.
I have to be strong for my girls.
I sat down beside Ginny who was sitting at the driver's seat.
"You okay?" She asked me with concern. I simply nodded.
"Wish someone would ask us that." Alex scoffed from the backseat.
"Dad would, too bad we won't be seeing him." Hazel added.
"Hey, you'd be seeing Dad, the only thing that's changed is that we won't be living with him anymore." I told them calmly.
"But I want us to live with Dad! Like we always have!" Jane cried.
"Seriously, mum, everything was perfect. You just had to leave Dad for no reason!" Alex shouted at me.
"Alex, honey don't talk to your mum that way. She has her reasons," Ginny said to her calmly.
"Shut up, Aunt Ginny! No one's talking to you!" She snapped.
"Alexis! Apologize to your Aunt right now! That is no way to speak to anyone!" I scolded her.
"Sorry, Aunt Ginny," She mumbled after pausing for a few seconds.
"It's alright, Love." Ginny told her with a smile.
And with that, Ginny drove us to her and Harry's house. They both had insisted that the girls and I stay with them over the summer to help us cope.
Once we got there, the girls got out of the car and ran into the house...maybe because they wanted to avoid me.
Meanwhile, Ginny and I were still in the car, "Now, tell me, are you really okay?" She asked with concern.
"I'm fine," I sighed.
"Anne...We've been best friends for twenty whole years...I can tell when you're telling the truth and when you're putting on a mask, being strong for others."
"Well, to be honest, I just feel miserable and I just wanna cry," I told her truthfully as tears flooded my eyes and I started to break down in front of her.
"Then cry," She said as she pulled me into a hug as I cried into her shoulder, "You don't always have to be so strong y'know? You're only human." She said as she stroked my hair.
"I'm not just Anne Potter anymore, I'm a mother too. I didn't realize this before but...I'm just not that fearless girl anymore who had nothing to lose. I'm a mother who has a lot to lose...and I feel like I'm losing it all. First, I lost the love of my life, and now my own daughters hate me. I don't know what to do. I feel like I'm a bad mother." I cried.
"Hey, look at me...you're not a bad mother, Anne. I don't know why you left Neville and I'm not gonna make assumptions but I know you must've thought it through...Considering your welfare doesn't make you a bad mother, Anne." She comforted.
"Thank you so much, Gin." I smiled at her.
"Anytime," She smiled back.
I'm not a bad mother.
