-.--.-..-.-...-

As the wind softly brush against Kali and Avery's hair, the two sat in silence enjoying the sound of the waves crashing against the wet white sand by the long shoreline. The laughter of their friends could be heard from a good distance but they paid it no mind.

"So, what really brought you guys here?" Kali asked as she took a short glance at the younger girl beside her. When she heard Vin's answer during lunch, she almost believed it. Almost.

Avery had never been good at hiding her emotions, not in front of her anyway. She adored the youngest so much so that she knew almost everything about there is to know about her. And when Avery gave her a bone-crushing hug when they met earlier, she knew that it wasn't the whole story.

The serene look on Avery's face vanished as she heard Kali's question. It brought out negative memory that she had almost wished to not have witnessed nor heard.

With eyes expressing sadness, she faced Kali.

"You didn't lose your phone, did you?" her voice was soft and small, as if afraid of speaking. That was what Kali had used as an excuse when Phoebe asked her a while ago why they couldn't contact her.

Although Avery's question made Kali blink in confusion. She suddenly wondered if she had done something wrong for the youngest to show such expression.

"I didn't," she admitted. There was no use in telling lies and she was tired of withholding truths. Look at where it had gotten her — broken relationships.

Avery nodded as she felt her presentiment being affirmed. "You left us. Why didn't you say anything? I texted and called a lot of times but you wouldn't answer."

The youngest' question made Kali nervous. She could feel her heart thudding inside her ribcage but she tried her hardest to calm herself down.

"I don't know what you mean, Avery. I didn't leave you guys. It's summer break so, of course, I'd be out here enjoying my summer... break?" Kali reasoned out, unsure whether she sounded convincing or not. She's indeed tired of avoiding speaking the truth but this is something she didn't want them to know.

Avery only looked at her with an expression of hurt as if knowing whatever it is she's trying so hard to hide. And Avery actually did for her next words said it all, "I saw you visiting the clinic, Kali. Twice."
