-.--.-..-.-...-"Kali's sick."
Two words.
Chand didn't expect how those two words alone made him feel so miserable. Actually, miserable is an understatement.
When he heard the three's conversation floating around a while ago, he had already thought of the worst possibilities.
But, hearing and confirming it is another thing. He could feel his whole world collapsing.
Chand tried to stay strong and he succeeded. He appeared cold on the outside, as if he didn't just hear something so heartbreaking.
"If she's sick then why go back to the villa? Wouldn't it be better to stay here? At least, she'll be getting treatment," Chand commented, it surprised the others how he was thinking and acting too rational.
Zaxton sighed. In all honesty, he'd want that too—for Kali to continue staying here and for her to undergo chemotherapy.
"She doesn't want to, okay?" Zaxton was exasperated, partly at Kali's decision but mainly at his inability to persuade her.
"She had already given up ever since her last doctor visit."
"What? Why... would she? What did you tell her?!" Avery threw an angry look at her brother, who had gotten quiet and is now looking down on the floor.
What? Why is Avery shouting at that guy? Unless—, Chand's thoughts were cut short as soon as the idea struck him.
"You're her doctor?" He choked out. Seb nodded when he heard Chand's query, all the while avoiding his sister's look of fury.
Zaxton glanced at Seb. It looked like the young doctor doesn't have any plans on saying anything. "He gave her more or less three months to live," Zaxton continued.
"Why would you say that?" Avery questioned her brother causing him to sigh.
Seb knows that he needs to tell them the truth even if he's basically going against his patient's privacy. But since they already know the gist of the current situation, so it wasn't really much of breaking the code.
"Her condition had been gradually worsening, Avi. When I last saw her and her lab and imaging results, I knew her body was already reaching its limits," Seb directed his words to his sister but he made sure that the other two hears it as well.
"It didn't looked good. Just like what the other doctor told you guys a while ago, the cancer had metastasized—meaning it had already spread to other parts of her body."
"That usually happens at the very end stages of cancer. And when it does, it'll be already too late to cure her," Seb continued.
"I did suggest chemotherapy to her that time but she said that she didn't want to undergo with it," Seb looked down. Even if Kali was only a patient of his, it still pains him when he recalled how Kali rejected the idea.
After all, every doctor wants their patient to live and it frustrates him that there was nothing that he could do.
"And so you told her that she only has three months to live, give or take," Avery's voice sounding defeated, reflecting how she currently feels.
Seb nodded grimly.
"When exactly was that?" Chand asked but only a look of confusion was thrown at him. So he clarified, "When exactly did you saw Kali the last time? When did you tell her that?"
Seb understood his question. The young lad was basically asking how much time left Kali has now.
"Three months ago."
Avery audibly gasped, Zaxton could only forcefully close his eyes in resignation, and Chand—he had to clench his teeth hard enough in order not to loss his consciousness.
