-.--.-..-.-...-"What are you saying, Kal? I do care for you," Chand answered, a look of hurt flashed past his soft features.
"No. You don't," Kali denied his words. She didn't want to hope for something she's not supposed to hope for.
"I do. I admit that I've caused you pain during our breakup and after that too. But that didn't change the fact that I really did care for you deep down Kali," Kali moved away from Chand's touch. The simple action brought a small prick to Chand's heart.
"Aren't you just feeling guilty? Because you didn't gave me a chance to explain my side of the story before branding me as a cheater when in fact, I could never do that to you?" She tried. Again.
Kali's words caused Chand to halt. His surroundings seemed to be going around in a circle. His heart clenched painfully when he realized how Kali didn't believe him. Was it this painful?, he thought as he remembered how he, himself, didn't believed Kali in the past.
Chand unconsciously bit the inside of his lips. He took a hold of both Kali's hands into his and squeezed them slightly as if he was begging her, "I'm sorry." Indeed, his expression showed his sincerity.
There really was nothing that he could say apart from an apology whenever the past would be brought back into their conversation. He could only blame himself as the feeling of regret would again resurface.
"But I want you to know Kal, that I really do care for you because... I love you," he spoke, tightening his hold of her once again as if he was afraid that she would disappear any minute now.
Chand finally admitted to it—to the emotion he's been feeling ever since they made up, to the emotion he thought he had gotten over with but in truth, didn't.
"I never stopped," he whispered into the air and against the silent surrounding. And Kali heard it.
Thoughts ran through Kali's head as soon as she heard his words. Different emotions came to surface and Chand bear witness to how fast her expression changed from one emotion to another.
Happiness—that was what she felt the moment he said those three words. Then it was followed by uncertainty, of whether she should allow herself to enter something she knew would end so quickly.
Then sadness came. Because she knew that an 'us' between them is never going to work. It was inevitable as her time was running out. And once her time would run out, she knew it would be very unfair to Chand.
So she only did the one thing she thought would be the very best for the two of them.
"I... don't love you anymore."
She lied.
