After somehow managing to get four infants and EIGHT ((WHY DID I DO THIS TO MYSELF)) adults in the SUV (not legally, of course) they found a fairly decent hotel that would allow them to stay for an extended period of time.
Kevin checked them in, mostly because he was in the best condition out of everyone.
It didn't take long for them to get up to their rooms, but Mitch was having a hard time moving without someone doing it for him.
Scott decided he'd just carry Mitch, but he forgot to say something and so when he picked Mitch up, he gave a loud shout that echoed.
"Please get inside now." Avi said, worry in his voice. He scanned the area, but he didn't see anything. So, he went into the room where the rest of the group was. He set the bags he had in the corner and finally was able to get a good look at everybody.
Mitch was as pale as a ghost, Kirstie looked like she might be sick, and Scott looked about as scared as Avi felt. Leigh hadn't let go of Kevin's hand since they got in the car.
The babies were being set up by Esther and Matt in what would be Esther, Leigh, Kevin, Matt, and the twins room. They were being put down currently, with hopes that they'd actually go down. But given recent events, they might not.
"Okay, um." Kevin started as he stood up. "I need to look at you guys."
"Mitch, first." Scott all but demanded. Then he cleared his throat. "Please." He sniffled as he leaned to kiss Mitch's forehead.
He had beads of sweat all over his face, but he was cold to the touch and shaking.
"I can tell you right now, he's got a fever and it's bad." Kevin said, and he hadn't even examined Mitch's wound yet.
He came over to lift Mitch's shirt, but Mitch's hand flung out and grabbed his wrist stopping him.
"Don't. Please." He said through clenched teeth. He didn't want to see it.
Kevin tried to loosen Mitch's grasp but he didn't have any luck.
"Mitch, I have to." He said. He could see the fear in Mitch's eyes.
Mitch's face contorted with pain and he let go of Kevin, allowing him to do what he needed.
Kevin lifted the shirt and stopped.
There were dark veins all around the wound that looked like it was spreading.
"What the hell happened?" Avi asked.
Kevin raised his hands and looked at Mitch, asking.
Mitch nodded, though he knew the physical contact was gonna hurt. He closed his eyes and searched for Scott's hand, eventually finding it.
Kevin slowly put his hands on Mitch's stomach, earning a sharp hiss from the demigod, but the longer he stayed there, the more he saw that his powers weren't working.
"Kevin?" Scott asked, his voice breaking.
"Nothing's happening." Was all he could say.
"What do you mean?" Kirstie said from the corner where she'd put herself.
Kevin shook his head and removed his hands.
"I mean exactly that. It isn't working. Whatever this is, it's not allowing me to heal him."
"So what are you saying?" Avi cleared his throat.
"I'm saying...." the Son of Apollo started, then he sighed. "I'm saying, if he can't be treated....I don't know how long we have."
