The next day, Leigh's shoulder was way worse than it was the day before.
She hadn't looked at it yet, not wanting to see the damage. But, the pain she was in told her it was bad.
She was currently stretched out on a bed with her left arm draped across her. Her, Kevin, and Esther all shared a room. Scott, Avi, Kristie and Mitch were in one with the babies on the right side of them, and Matt was in another with the twins on the left.
She sniffled as she stared at the TV. She wasn't really watching what was on, she was just replaying the recent events in her head. What she didn't notice were the tears falling down her face.
The weight shifted next to her on the bed she was on. She looked to see Kevin, who had concern plastered on his face.
"I'm okay." She said, her voice quivering as she brought up a hand to wipe her tears.
"Leigh..."
"Really. I'm fine. I just..." The words failed her as she leaned into Kevin and sobbed, holding on to his shirt, making sure he wasn't going anywhere. "I was really scared. I thought I'd lost you and I just..."
Kevin held her and let her cry. He didn't shush her, he just let her feel it.
"I'm not going anywhere, Leigh."
"Better not." She sniffled. "I'll kill you myself." She moved her arm to wipe her face, but let out a whimper at the movement.
"Hey, let me see your shoulder." Kevin said softly, propping himself on an elbow to get a better look. He tried lifting the sleeve of her shirt, but she pulled it away.
"It's fine. There nothing you can do anyway." She coughed.
Kevin pursed his lips and brought up his hand to hover over her shoulder anyway. He focused, allowing a golden glow come from his hand, but her shoulder showed no improvement.
"See?" She coughed again.
Now that Kevin really looked at her, he saw she'd lost some of her color and dark circles had formed around her eyes.
"Can you help me shower? I can't lift my arm." She asked, tears shining in her eyes.
Kevin nodded softly and came forward to kiss her lips.
"I'll go start it." He whispered, then kissed the hand attached to her good arm and went into the bathroom.
Once the water was hot enough, he went back to Leigh and helped her sit up, seeing the wince of pain as she did.
First, he helped her get her shirt off, doing so in a way that didn't involve her moving her arm too much. Then he crouched down and helped her remove her pants before leading her to the bathroom where he undressed her the rest of the way and helped her into the shower.
He saw her wound and pursed his lips. It was darker than it was yesterday and the dark veins surrounding it only seemed to be spreading further around her shoulder and down her arm.
He slowly exhaled and ran his fingers through her long, brown, hair to help the water spread. Once her hair was wet, he lathered up the shampoo and helped her wash it.
Leigh smiled at him and closed her eyes, just taking in the feeling.
She was truly terrified that she'd lost Kevin.
As that moment replayed in her head, she reached up to find one of Kevin's hands. Once she found it, she squeezed and stared at the wall, not wanting to let go.
"Hey." He said softly, then turned her head so she was looking at him.
"Talk to me."
"I just...don't wanna lose you." She sniffled. "I really thought you were gone and it tore me apart." She helped as much as she could to rinse out her hair, but Kevin just kept his grip on her hand while using the other to rinse the shampoo out.
