tumbling down the riverbed
getting beaten as I go
some sights catch my eye
& others I'll never know
regardless of my resistance
it takes me farther down
other swim with the current
it gives me pause
I could never be like that
constricted to my own invisible laws
I fight my circumstances
I cannot let them be
it's frightening what's ahead
a vast endless sea
struggling, though I'm tired
I fail to see the pain
my bruised and cut up body
has suffered through my strain
the horizon is blinding-
tempting me
but I'm not ready to go
crying is useless
but this life is all I've known
I want to go back
clutch the rocks I had to part
hope for a better tomorrow
knowing
you can't go back
from where you start.
