Because words travel through noise
Give them the chance,
For a final everlasting dance
Because life doesn't last forever
Sway with the music
Let your heart stop
Look into their eyes
As you see theirs drop
Smile anyway
As you fall under a spell
Swirling in circles
In a sophisticated hell
Masks can cover their face
But you won't be fooled
A chandelier twinkles
As you break your own rules
The rhythmatic tapping of feet
The whites of their teeth
The clinking of glasses
Torrents of laughter
The pace gets faster
And you stumble on your heels
Everything's louder
Eyes looking around wider
As they see you
For who you are
The fancy dress
And suits
Was never your style
You parade around
Seeking connections
For a while
You sip your drink
Poison in your veins
Gazes pointed at you
Knowing you're strange
Nervous lips
Sealed shut
You look down
Knowing you're stuck
Blinking rapidly
A familiar burn in your eyes
It's shouldn't be such a surprise
You can dance like they do
Talk like they do
Dress like they do
But you'll always be judged
Darling don't look like that
Your mascara is smudged
Your facade is cracking
They'll start verbally attacking
Because you're not one of them
So adjust your skirt
Hold your head high
Click your heels
Until your eyes dry
Don't be so foolish
You'll never fit in
Give them that smile
And maybe you'll win
Laugh with them honey
No one is happy
Everyone's lives
Is uniquely crappy
It's almost midnight
But you won't have to change
These people can't recognize
A true Cinderella
Isn't it strange?
Be better than them love
For their smiles
Never reach their eyes
In a masquerade ball
Everyone's in disguise
