" What's this about?"
Anele was surprised when they were called into a meeting just as they started their shift. Those who were scheduled for the afternoon shift were also in attendance.
" There's rumours that the restaurant is being sold and I guess this is to confirm or deny the rumours."
Minnie replied. Anele never paid attention to the work gossip, she kept a routine that did not give her time to indulge in such. It consisted of getting the twins to school, then class, work then home.
" Where there's smoke there's fire."
" I guess."
They were seated in the last row behind everybody else and chatted about the possibility of being jobless while awaiting whoever called this meeting.
" I don't understand why anyone would sell such a successful business."
Minnie added
" Maybe they are retiring or moving. who knows?."
Anele shrugged.
" That makes sense but I hope whoever buys this place doesn't change it into something else and still lets us work here."
" It's a very busy and successful restaurant, I don't think anyone would change it."
As true as this was, she understood that there was a possibility of the new owners turning the restaurant into something else but the universe would not be that harsh, right?.
" Huh?"
A gentle nudge to her side startled her from her thoughts.
" Isn't that your ex?"
Anele to the staff entrance where Minnie had pointed and there was Kyoko standing with a very smitten Beatrice. Kyoko always had this effect on women and you had to do a confident work man to be her girlfriend because she does this without even meaning to.
" She's so fine, I wonder how she looked like without tattoos."
Minnie looked at her friend who had a bored expression on her face while watching Kyoko walk in with Beatrice.
" When I met her she had them only on the places her uniform could hide and as soon as she was done with high school she had them done on the visible parts. She started getting them to get attention from her parents who were always more concerned about her older brother than her."
Anele's expression turned sad when she recalled how hard it was for Kyoko growing up under her brother's spotlight.
" Her young life must've been horrible for you to have that look on your face. You still care about her."
" We have history, I'm going to care but she doesn't have to_ this. is. not. happening."
Anele added when she noticed Kyoko stand in front of the staff and next to Beatrice.
" Oh my gosh!"
Minnie exclaimed louder than intended, causing everyone to turn to them.
" Sorry my results just came in."
She said smiling, Kyoko smiled back and her and she could not help blushing but quickly looked away when she recalled that Kyoko hurt her friend. Anele smiled noticing her inner conflict.
" You know you don't to hate her because of me."
" Yes but she hurt you so I'm her enemy too. Anyway you think she's the new buyer?"
Minnie asked.
" It looks like it but her family doesn't deal in such and her companies are technology companies."
" Maybe she's venturing into the restaurant industry."
" I doubt but if she is then I'm resigning."
Minnie was shocked and wanted to advice her against this but Beatrice began speaking. She did a speech about how it's been wonderful working with each and everyone, Anele rolled her eyes. Beatrice was acting like the restaurant was about to close down and made everyone anxious.
" This was supposed to be a good year."
Anele mumbled when Beatrice explained that the restaurant had been sold and Kyoko was the new owner. Staying here she would never get rid of the Himura's but finding another job would be difficult.
