Anele hated payday as it was the most stressful day of being an employee. Every month she had to calculate her bills and how much she would be left with for personal use after covering all her bills and it was never much. Anele never did her budget before but always did it on payday because her pay fluctuates, you cannot budget ahead on it. As she walked out of the restaurant after her shift, she pulled out her pay slip from her purse and opened it with a heavy heart. She tried to be positive, next month she will have a better payslip because the company had called her back. She got the job in would be starting the next coming Monday.
" What the hell?!"
Opening her payslip, she was shocked to find that she had earned more than double her monthly income. Her first thought was that they had made a mistake but recalling Kyoko had taken over, she understood what had happened. Anele did not like handouts especially from the Himura's, the extra pay angered her so much she went to Kyoko's company to confront her.
Anele stormed into Kyoko's office, her anger radiating off of her. She slammed the payslip down on Kyoko's desk with a force that made the other woman jump.
"What is the meaning of this?"
Anele demanded, her voice filled with irritation.
"Why did you give me more money than I earned?"
Kyoko looked up at Anele, her expression calm but her eyes showing a hint of surprise.
"Nelly, please calm down,"
she said soothingly.
" Don't tell me to calm down. I may be going through financial difficulties but I don't want your money. I suggest you fix this."
Anele crossed her arms over her chest, not impressed by Kyoko's attempt to pacify her.
" Why are you so proud? It's just money."
Kyoko genuinely did not understand her reaction, she thought Anele would happy that she did not have to worry about money this month. Anele clenched her jaw, her frustration evident in her tone.
"It's not just about the money, Kyoko. It's about my self-worth, my independence, and my ability to provide for myself and my family. I've worked hard all my life, and I won't accept charity as a solution. I want to find a way to overcome these difficulties on my own."
Kyoko understood she was independent but she was trying to ease her burden, why did she not see that. Sure Anele had issues with Kyoko's family but Kyoko thought they were working past that. Feeling a mixture of confusion and frustration, Kyoko took a deep breath before responding.
" I understand that you value your independence and self-reliance. I respect that but there's nothing wrong with accepting help."
" I don't want to be indebted to anyone especially your family."
Anele refused to back down.
" It's my money please let me help you. I care about you and your wellbeing, and I want to offer support in any way I can. It's not about charity, it's about being there for each other."
Anele wanted to laugh, she was not there when she really needed her and now she thinks a few thousands will make up for that.
" I'm good on my own thanks, I've been good for years now."
" You told me to show you how genuine I was about earning your forgiveness, baby this is it and you're going to have to expect such gestures from me forever and ever."
Kyoko stood up from her chair and went around the table to where Anele stood, she wanted to minimise the space between them. Plus something about her being independent and strict about it, aroused her. Anele took a step back, realising that maybe she shouldn't have come here but in a moment of anger and feeling disrespected, she had stormed into Kyoko's private space.
