Anele lowered her head, avoiding eye contact as she walked into the boardroom ten minutes late for the scheduled company meetings. Ten minutes late on her very first day, she wanted the earth to swallow her up but all she could do was avoid any eye contact with her boss, miss Hae Geun. During orientation she was told miss Geun detested tardiness and on her first day, as miss Geun's assistant she was late.
" Anele if we're boring you you can excuse yourself."
Anele looked up after hearing her name being called out by a stern voice to be met with Miss Geun's emerald eyes. She gulped , embarrassed, she was so into her thoughts she did not realise that the President of the company was introducing her to the rest of the staff.
In just one day and on her first day, she had offended the woman whose assistant she was supposed to be. Anele quickly stood up, her face turning red from embarrassment. She stuttered, trying to find the right words to apologize.
"I-I'm so sorry, Miss Geun. I didn't mean to appear disrespectful or uninterested. I was just... just caught up in my own thoughts."
Miss Geun's stern expression softened slightly as she noticed the genuine remorse in Anele's eyes.
"You should always be fully present and attentive during meetings, Anele. It's crucial to show respect to your colleagues and the work we do here,"
she said, her voice still firm but with a hint of understanding. Anele nodded, feeling a mixture of relief and gratitude for Miss Geun's willingness to hear her apology.
"You're right, Miss Geun. It won't happen again. I promise to be more attentive and punctual in the future."
Miss Geun nodded, her gaze shifting to the rest of the staff in the boardroom.
"Alright, everyone, let's get back to the meeting. Anele, please take a seat next to me and focus on catching up."
she instructed, her tone indicating that she was extending a chance for Anele to redeem herself.
As Anele took her seat, she couldn't help but feel relieved that Miss Geun hadn't immediately dismissed her or shown any signs of anger towards her. She knew she had made a mistake on her first day, but she was determined to learn and grow from it.
Throughout the rest of the meeting, Anele made sure to actively participate and contribute to the discussions, noting down any important points. She was determined to prove herself as a capable assistant and rebuild Miss Geun's trust in her.
After the meeting ended, Miss Geun called Anele into her office. Anele entered, feeling a mix of nerves and anticipation. However, to her surprise, Miss Geun had a small smile on her face.
"Just because you made a mistake today, Anele, doesn't mean you're doomed to a future of failure,"
Miss Geun said, her voice gentle yet firm.
"I believe in giving people second chances, as long as they are willing to take responsibility and learn from their mistakes. I hope you will do the same."
Anele nodded fervently, feeling a renewed sense of determination.
"Thank you, Miss Geun. I really appreciate this second chance. I promise to work harder and show you that I am worthy of being your assistant."
Miss Geun nodded, her emerald eyes reflecting a glimmer of hope.
"Good. I expect nothing less. Now, let's get to work. There's a lot for you to catch up on."
As Anele stepped out of Miss Geun's office, she couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to make amends. She knew she had a long way to go to regain Miss Geun's trust, but she was ready to face the challenge head-on.
" Now your job will differ daily according to my needs for that day but don't worry it won't involve anything outside of this building like getting me food.."
Anele was relieved.
