Watching the interaction between her brother and Anele, an old feeling returned to Kyoko. The feeling of jealousy, anger and heartbreak. She last felt her heartbreak on the night she found out Anele had slept with her brother, Kenji. It hurt to think that Anele, only got close to her to get to her brother. At that time she believed Anele had seduced her brother because her brother had said so, how naive she was. A few months ago she was angered when Kenji confessed to forcefully taking her.
Realisation of what Kenji's confession meant turned her anger into embarrassment. Kyoko wanted to hurt her brother for making her believe that Kyoko was unfaithful to her but now watching their interaction she was angry at herself for not protecting Anele from her brother and not believing her when she told her Kenji forced her. Kyoko's heart broke knowing that they ( the Himura's) caused all this heartache and pain for Anele.
They were the reason she ended a perfect relationship. Kenji took her forcefully and in turn she, Kyoko bullied her because she believed her brother, Kenji and her parents. Now, looking back, Kyoko realized the truth. Her brother had manipulated the situation and deceived her, causing immense pain to both Anele and herself.
As she observed their interaction, Kyoko felt a surge of guilt and regret. She wished she had protected Anele from the beginning, believed her when she spoke up about what had happened. She blamed herself for allowing her trust in her brother to cloud her judgment and for not standing up for Anele when she needed it the most.
The realization hit Kyoko hard - she had played a part in causing Anele so much suffering. She had been blind to the truth, consumed by her own jealousy and anger. It was a painful lesson for Kyoko, learning the consequences of not listening, not believing, and not protecting the ones she loved.
In that moment, Kyoko made a silent vow to herself. She would make things right. She would support and protect Anele from now on, making sure she never faced any more pain or mistreatment. She wouldn't let her past mistakes define her actions anymore.
Anele must have felt her staring as she looked up at her with a smile. Kyoko reciprocated it but it turned into a frown when she noticed the bruise on her cheek, it was no longer as visible as when Bae slapped her but it was visible to those who knew her. Kyoko waited till the dinner was over to ask her what about it.
" I told Bai about us kissing-"
" So she hit you!?"
Kyoko was livid.
" It was a mistake, she didn't mean to and she regrets it deeply."
" I can't believe you're defending her right now, no one has the right to put their hands on you."
Except you, Anele thought to say but decided against it.
" Kyoko I'm not defending her but I too was wrong for kissing you while being in a relationship with Bai,"
Sometimes Anele was too nice for her own good , Kyoko thought. Kyoko did not feel guilty for kissing Anele and wished she had gone further than just a kiss , but she understood Anele's point of view.
"I understand."
Kyoko said, her voice softer now.
" We both know that what we feel for each other is real. We can't just ignore it."
Anele sighed, her eyes filled with a mix of emotions.
"I care about Bai and hurting her like this... I just can't do it."
Kyoko took Anele's hand in hers, squeezing it gently.
" I've been given a second chance to make things right with you, I'm not letting this opportunity go and Bai is going to pay for this."
Anele was warmed by Kyoko's concern for her and considered giving her another chance, Bai had technically ended their relationship after all.
