Anele panicked when she found she could not open the door, it was locked. She felt her chest close up but she was determined not to faint with Kenji behind her. Who knows what he will do to her, she turned around thinking of finding another way out of this house but she was met with Kenji's face. Seeing the panic on her face, Kenji took slow steps towards her to try calm her down but in her panicked state it seemed as if he was angrily leaping towards her, ready to pin her down and hurt her. She screamed and crouched down, hiding her head in her arms which were on her knees, folded around herself as if she was shielding herself from harm.

" Kenji stop your presence is causing her trauma. Move away from her and go wait outside till she's calm."

Kenji wanted to protest but knowing his grandmother would hit him upside the head if he did, he hesitantly left the house. Kyoko, Kenji's sister and Anele's ex girlfriend, rushed to Anele's side and held her. Kyoko realised in that moment that she failed to protect Anele from her brother sis years ago, she should have done this back then. Maybe they would still be girlfriend and girlfriend.

As Kyoko comforted Anele, she felt a surge of guilt and regret. How could she have believed her brother over her, she had failed Anele in many ways and it was understandable that Anele hated her. Tears welled up in Kyoko's eyes as she held Anele tightly, whispering words of comfort and apologies.

"I'm so sorry, Annie"

Kyoko whispered, her voice trembling with emotion.

"I should have protected you from him. I should have stood up for you. I should've believed you but I was dumb, young and naive."

Anele slowly lifted her head, her eyes red and swollen from crying. She looked at Kyoko, her expression a mixture of pain and longing. With concern on their faces, her parents, their parents and grandparents all stood in the kitchen watching them. Anele felt calmer but uncomfortable. Under normal circumstances she would have pushed her away but in this moment all she could do was ask her to take her home.

" I want to go home."

She said through hiccups, Kyoko knew that if she cried hard Anele developed hiccups and she could not help but wonder if she did develop hiccups the night her friends beat her. The guilt of letting it happen, now ate Kyoko up. Anele was telling the truth all this time but she failed to believe the woman she claimed to be in love with.

" Okay I'll help you up."

Kyoko gently reached out her hand to Anele, offering support. Anele took hold of it, feeling a mix of relief and apprehension. As Kyoko helped her up, Anele couldn't help but notice the concern and pain etched on her face. It reminded her of the Kyoko she knew before the incident.

With shaky legs, Anele stood up, still feeling the weight of her emotions pressing down on her. She leaned into Kyoko for support, feeling a tinge of warmth and reassurance emanating from her touch. Something she never thought she would feel again, especially from Kyoko.

As they made their way towards the exit, Anele glanced back at their families, who had been witness to their painful exchange. Kyoko's parents looked away with shame. She could see worry and confusion etched on their faces, but she couldn't bring herself to say anything. It was too much to bear at the moment.

" Nene"

Her teary eyed mother called out for her then attempted to grab her but Anele's father stepped in front of his wife and shook his head , no.

" Let her go."
