" Guess last night's romantic dinner went well for you?"

Aiko, along with the rest of Kyoko's staff had noticed that she seemed to be in a better mood today. During meetings Kyoko was usually grumpy and criticised everything presented to her but as many mistakes that some presentations had, she kept the small smile on her face. Her employees were so shocked by her behaviour they gossiped amongst each other.

" Better than I had expected, it really helped that the twins weren't around and it was just me and Anele." Kyoko

" See it wasn't as hard as you thought it would be, for you to tell her that you had to fly out of the country for business."

Kyoko's smile faltered.

" You just had to ruin it."

Aiko was confused for a second.

" How?_ oh you didn't tell her did you?"

Kyoko sighed, Aiko took that as her agreeing.

" You know you're flying out in less than four hours  and tomorrow is Valentine's Day? No girl loves to be alone on the day for lovers."

Kyoko kissed her teeth, instead of helping Aiko was just stating the obvious.

"Yeah, well, what can I do about it now? It's too late to change my plans."

Kyoko replied with a hint of frustration in her voice.
Aiko gave Kyoko a sympathetic look.

"I understand that you have important business to attend to, but maybe there's still something you can do to make it up to Anele. It doesn't have to be something extravagant, just a small gesture to show her that you care."

Kyoko rolled her eyes.

"You know I'm terrible at this romantic stuff, Aiko. I had to use social media to set up last night but I guess you're right, I should tell her before I leave."

Aiko nodded.

"Exactly. It's the thought that counts. Maybe you can surprise her with a thoughtful gift or write her a heartfelt note expressing how much she means to you. Then tell her that you're leaving town. Small gestures can go a long way."

Kyoko sighed again, this time a little more defeated.

" You're enjoying this, huh?."

Aiko smiled resting her feet on Kyoko's office desk before Kyoko pushed them off.

" Well I'm just glad that I finally have a girlfriend and valentines. Honestly though you know you can make it up to her when you return. Anele's an understanding lady."
Aiko

" I know but I hate disappointing her, I know she believes in this valentine nonsense and I was looking forward to spending it with her for once."

Aiko nodded in understanding.

" When you return, you can make it up to her in any way you see fit. I'm sure she'll appreciate the effort."

Kyoko sighed and leaned back in her chair.

"You're right,"

" As always."

Kyoko glared at her friend under her reading glasses and Aiko smiled sheepishly.

" I'll talk to her before I leave and when I come back, I'll plan something special for us."

Kyoko mumbled and Aiko smiled.

"That's the spirit. I'm sure everything will work out just fine, maybe this long-distance gesture will make her miss you even more."

Kyoko chuckled.

"That's one way to look at it. Thanks, Aiko. I'll do my best to make it up to Anele and make this Valentine's Day special for her, even from afar."

Aiko nodded and stood up from Kyoko's desk.

"Just remember, it's the thought and effort that count."
Aiko

" Not when you're trying to impress the girl you hurt badly but I get you."
Kyoko

" Anyway, good luck with your trip, and have a safe flight."

"Thanks. I appreciate your support. Congratulations once again on finding love. It's about time."

Aiko blushed and waved off Kyoko's remark.

"I must say it feels good to have someone."

With that, they both went back to their respective tasks, Kyoko arranged for lunch with Anele at the airport.
