Kyoko knew nothing about nothing about the restaurant business but she knew a lot about business and she was confident she could run a restaurant. Even if she did buy this place for the wrong reasons. She almost did not hear Beatrice introduce as she was lost in her thoughts of her new business and personal venture. The personal venture will be harder than her convincing the restaurant owner to sell to her. Anele ( her ex girlfriend and employee of this restaurant. The reason she bought the place.) had not even once looked at her since she walked in. Kyoko new she had seen her because there were not that many employees seated in the dining area, awaiting to hear why they were called into a meeting.
Kyoko cleared her throat, refocusing her attention on Beatrice, who was now explaining the reason for the meeting.
"As you all know or have heard, the restaurant has been sold,"
Beatrice began, her voice filled with a mix of sadness and relief.
"Unfortunately mister Gamizelo couldn't join us today as he had to fly out for a family emergency but he hopes you'll work as well with the new owner as you did with him."
The staff knew that mister Gamizelo was the owner but because he rarely came to the restaurant they had temporarily forgotten about his existence.
"After careful consideration, mister Gamizelo has decided to sell it to someone who has a deep understanding of the business and will continue to uphold the values and traditions that this place holds."
Kyoko felt a pang of guilt listening to Beatrice's words. She knew she didn't possess the same level of knowledge and experience in the restaurant business as Beatrice or the owner did. Her decision to buy the place was fueled more by personal reasons and a desire to reconnect with Anele.
Beatrice continued,
"It was a tough decision, but after seeing how passionate Kyoko is about this restaurant and how she plans to bring her unique perspective and fresh ideas, I believe she is the right person to take over."
Anele's eyes finally met Kyoko's, but there was no warmth or happiness in them. Instead, they were filled with a mix of confusion and hurt. Kyoko knew their relationship had ended badly and caused a lot of pain, but she hoped that buying this restaurant would be a gesture to mend things between them.
" Please welcome miss_ I mean Kyoko."
Taking a deep breath, Kyoko stood up and addressed the employees gathered in the room.
"Thank you, Beatrice, for your belief in me and the warm reception. I am well aware that I have a lot to learn about this business, but I promise to give it my all and bring a fresh energy to this place."
As she spoke, Kyoko couldn't help but notice Anele's guarded expression. She wished there was a way to communicate with her, to explain her intentions and express her regret for how their relationship had ended and for being the cause of her bullying which led to her dropping out of high school. When Anele needed her, Kyoko turned her back on her but if Anele lets her, she will spend the rest of her days correcting that. If only Anele could let Kyoko speak to her.
" First things first your jobs are safe and you'll all be compensated for today and tips included."
The staff were pleased by this except Anele who looked bored, like she did not want to be here. Kyoko wanted to say something to her but for now, all she could do was focus on her new venture and hope that with time, she could rebuild the trust and connection she had lost with Anele. This was all for her.
