Anele lost her composure and burst into tears. She cried for every time she had to hold back her tears, these past six years and do it on her own because she had no one. Her kids needed her and her parents her said " you made your bed, now lay in it.". Her mother moved from her father's side and sat next to her, pulling her onto her chest then rocked her back and forth while cooing. At first she was reluctant to her comforting her but then she wrapped her arms around her mother's waist and continued to cry.
" We were wrong for how we treated you and we're sorry baby."
Her father sat across from them, his face filled with regret.
" We just never had to deal with such a situation and we were not sure how to handle or who to believe."
he said quietly.
" So you chose to believe Kenji?."
Anele released herself from her mother's embrace and looked at her father, who avoided looking at her.
"Did it ever occur to you that it was worse for me being that I was the victim being made out to be the culprit. I always saw men saying girls were asking for it but never, in a million years did I think my own dad would think that about me. His own daughter, the one he raised from birth."
Anele cried, her father was riddled with guilt and did not know what to say to this but apologise.
" Baby girl I'm sorry. Daddy's sorry. I didn't know any better and I trusted the wrong people. I made a huge mistake but I'm all honesty, I never stopped loving you. The hurt of seeing you pregnant out of wedlock and at such a young age angered me, I had lost my precious baby girl. I took out my anger from being unable to protect you from this man, out on you."
Anele listened to her father's apology, her heart aching with both pain and understanding. She knew that forgiveness would take time, but she also knew that her parents were truly sorry for their actions. She nodded slowly, feeling a sense of relief that her parents were finally acknowledging their mistakes.
"I appreciate your honesty, Dad,"
she said softly.
"Baby I know it's going to take time for you to heal from everything that has happened but I want to try to rebuild our relationship, if you are willing to work on it with your mother and I."
Anele nodded, her tears slowly subsiding as she felt the warmth of her parents' embrace.
" All I ever wanted was your love, support and understanding. I'm willing to give it a chance but I don't promise that it will all happen over night. It's hard for me to even say this but I do want to try heal, with the both of you."
she admitted
Her parents nodded in agreement, and Anele felt a glimmer of hope for the first time in a long while. She knew that it wouldn't be easy, but she was willing to give her family another chance.
" It's okay baby."
Her mother kissed the top of her head and held her tighter.
"We may not have been there for you before, but we're here now. We'll help you. You don't have to do this on your own anymore,"
her mother whispered.
Anele took a deep breath, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders.
"Thank you, Mom, Dad. I needed to hear that,"
she said, wiping her tears away.
Anele was grateful that they had had that talk, to think she had been avoiding this moment because she feared they would continue to blame her. She thought she no longer wanted her parents love and support because she had done it alone these past few years but as her mom held her, Anele knew she still needed them.
