" Stupid me. I thought you were different."
" But I-"
" Get away from me! I don't ever want to see your fat face again."
Nothing hurt more than her words and the look of disgust on her face. The one person who she thought would believe her did not...
" I thought you said all the nurses were out sourced and none of them came from around here."
Kyoko slammed her hands hard on her father's office desk, startling him.
" First don't talk to me in that tone, I'm still your father and secondly they were hired from outside the province."
Kyoko poured herself a drink from her father's display of multiple alcoholic beverages.
" Nurse Leah seems to be a local resident."
" Who's that?"
Her father questioned her clueless. The only person's name he knew was the doctor who operated on Kenji and he did not care to know who the others were either.
" The nurse who took care of the twins after the procedure. Met her at the supermarket yesterday, while I was with Nene,"
Nene was the affectionate name Kyoko used for Anele.
" She almost exposed the truth but managed to prevent that with my quick thinking. I need you to find out who else worked on Kenji and how many of them are local." Kyoko
" I'll do that and I'll handle Leah but now have you made a decision about helping your brother with running the parent company?"
Kyoko sighed, she was sick of her parents and grandparents trying to get her to help Kenji but refusing to give her a company of her own.
" I told you unless I'm running the company I'm not helping Kenji run anything."
" Kyoko you're being selfish, we have you shares in the company. You know it's tradition that the first born son gets run the family businesses."
Kyoko rolled her eyes, frustrated with her father's traditional mindset. She took a sip of her drink before responding.
"I don't care about tradition. It's unfair that Kenji gets everything just because he's a boy. I've worked just as hard, if not harder, to prove myself. I deserve my own chance to run a company."
Her father sighed, leaning back in his chair.
"Kyoko, you know it's not that simple. The family expects the firstborn son to take over. It's been like this for generations."
"Well, maybe it's time for a change,"
she retorted.
"I won't be limited by outdated customs. I have my own goals and ambitions, and I won't settle for being overshadowed by Kenji. He barely knows how to run a company and he has disgraced the family." Kyoko
" We all make mistakes Kyoko and your brother is remorseful for his past actions."
Her father reasoned but Kyoko shook her head in disagreement with her father.
" He only showed remorse to save his skin, anyway none of that matters. I'm not helping Kenji whose getting the company just because he has a dick."
Her father looked at her, a mix of frustration and understanding in his eyes.
"I understand your frustrations, Kyoko. But you need to consider the bigger picture here. The company is not just about personal ambition. It's about the legacy of our family, the responsibility we have towards our employees and shareholders."
Kyoko bit her lip, her anger subsiding slightly.
"I know all that, dad but I also know what I'm capable of. You've seen with my own companies how successfully I can run and grow a business."
Her father sighed again, his gaze softening.
" Kyoko, Kenji has been preparing for this role since he was a young boy."
" He has nothing to show for it but I, who was never formally trained on how to run the family business, have a few successful businesses in my name. Maybe you need to review the rules."
"Alright, Kyoko. I'll talk to your grandparents about this but no promises and in the meantime, I'll find out about the other nurses who worked on Kenji. Is that okay?"
Kyoko nodded, a small sense of relief washing over her.
"Thank you"
