With the twins in tow and a paper bag filled with breakfast takeaways, Kyoko knocked on the front door of Anele's apartment. She had spent last night with them to avoid seeing her as she knew she was probably angry at her for what happened in the boardroom. Kyoko smiled when Anele's just woke up face appeared from the other side of the door but Anele was not happy to see her. The twins excitedly ran to her and hugged her before beginning to tell her of the fun they had with Kyoko last night and all that she has planned for the day.
" Okay guys sit down and eat, let mom eat too. We have a long day ahead of us."
Anele was surprised at how well the twins listened to Kyoko and how obedient they were with her.
" What did you do to my kids?"
Anele asked in an accusatory tone.
" What do you mean?"
" They never listen like that just did now to me, especially when it's related to food or breakfast. I have to call them more than twice before they reluctantly drag their feet into the kitchen but they just jumped without hesitation with you. You didn't hurt my kids did you?"
Kyoko raised her eyebrows at her.
" I know we were apart for years but do you think I would hurt them?.."
Anele wanted to mention that she hurt her but decided against it, recalling that they had agreed on starting anew.
" I know what you're thinking but I never laid my hands on you.."
Kyoko
" You let others beat me for you, same thing."
Anele
Kyoko shook her head.
" It's understandable that you feel that way but I only sat the twins down, gave them my rules and they've followed them well. I don't hit, beat or spank children."
Anele watched her children while she ate, Kyoko watched her. Kyoko understood why she was protective of them and felt guilty for ever putting Anele in a position that made her feel, vulnerable, unprotected and unloved. She might blame her family for making her believe that Anele had cheated on her with her brother but her reaction and treatment of her was of her own doing.
" You guys get ready for the theme park, I'll wash the dishes."
Kyoko
Anele cut her eyes at her, it was Saturday, all she wanted was to rest indoors and hated that she told the twins first about going to this theme park. Kyoko did it because she knew Anele hated anything that had to do with her being away from her bed or couch and being around large crowds. Anele was never the type to go out and she had to coerce even in high school.
" They need to have fun, every weekend you have them cooped up in here."
Kyoko
" It's not every weekend, O just haven't had time recently because of exams. Weekends are the only time I get enough time to study."
Anele
" Then prior to that was because you worked weekends at the restaurant, the twins told me how it was when you worked at the restaurant. They barely had fun time with you then and recently it's been worse."
Kyoko
Anele stayed silent, she had never wanted to make her children feel neglect or abandoned or that they were second to everything else she had going on but she realised that she had made them feel that way recently. Due to increased expenses she had taken extra shifts at work and this new job required her to be at work Monday to Friday. She also knocked of at five everyday and got home an hour and a half later.
" Look don't beat yourself up about it, it doesn't mean you're a bad mom. You just need to make time for them."
Kyoko
" I'm sorry but you're not a mother, you can't advise me on it."
