As a heavily pregnant Anele opened the door, her heart raced with both anticipation and dread. She expected the familiar sight of the pizza delivery person, but instead, her breath caught in her throat. Standing on the other side was the Himura's security, she knew that if they were here then there was a member of the Himura family with them and it definitely wasn't Kyoko because she did not want anyone from her family finding out about their hiding place.
" Evening, Anele,"
Kenji appeared from behind the men. Anele's heart dropped as she stood frozen in the doorway, her mind racing with the implications of Kenji's presence after five years. The warmth of the island paradise she had come to call home, where she had built a life with Kyoko and their children, felt like it was slipping away in an instant.
"Kenji,"
she managed to utter, her voice barely a whisper. The weight of her past stood heavy in the air between them. She took a step back, instinctively moving to shield the doorway, blocking his view of the cozy home that harbored her new life.
"We need to talk,"
he said, his tone deceptively calm. The two security men flanked him silently, their stoic expressions suggesting they were ready for any resistance.Anele's mind churned frantically. She had spent the last five years living in fear of this moment, and yet here it was.
"You shouldn't be here,"
she replied, her voice steadier than she felt.
"You have no right to intrude into my life."
Kenji's smile faltered for just a moment, revealing the flicker of anger beneath his composed façade.
"You think you can just run away with my children, Anele? Himura children."
Anele's heart raced as his words sunk in. He may have considered himself a property owner, but she knew she wasn't there to play by his rules.
"You lost the right to be their father the moment you tried to harm me,"
she spat, anger rising through her body. Memories of pain threatened to overwhelm her, but she stood firm, determined not to show weakness. Kenji's eyes darkened, and he stepped forward, forcing her back against the door frame.
" I didn't though."
As she glanced over her shoulder, desperately searching for a way to escape, the tension in the air thickened. Just then, the soft sound of feet padding down the hallway turned her thoughts back to what mattered most: the children. Dae and Dara were just behind her, sensing the unease in the room.
"Mommy?"
came Dara's small voice, peeking around Anele, her eyes wide and innocent.
" Daddy?"
Anele's heart raced as she glanced back at her children, a protective instinct kicking in.
"Sweethearts, go back to your room. Now,"
she urged, her voice trembling with urgency. Dae clung to his sister, uncertainty flickering across their innocent faces. Anele's resolve hardened. She straightened up and faced Kenji, suppressing the surge of anger and fear that threatened to overwhelm her.
"Leave!."
Kenji's carefully crafted smile faded, replaced by a scowl that revealed the true nature of his intentions.
"You really think you can hide them from the Himura family? From me? You're living in a fantasy if you believe that."
before Anele could respond, she spotted Kyoko's familiar car pulling into the driveway. Relief washed over her as she realized her wife was almost home.
