" I've been worried sick about you."
Kyoko hugged Anele as soon as she opened her front door.
" Unfortunately I couldn't leave work due to important meetings but I've been calling you all afternoon."
Kyoko noticed Anele was unusually quiet and distant. This alerted her to there being a problem but she could not think what the issue might be.
" We're you already asleep?"
Kyoko noticed the dark house.
" No."
One word answer, Kyoko knew something was definitely wrong.
" What's wrong?"
Anele went into the kitchen and turned on the kitchen light, then leaned on the kitchen counter with her arms folded under her breast but removed them when she saw Kyoko staring.
" Who has Leukaemia in your family?"
" Kenji suffered from it why?"
Kyoko thought nothing of it.
" Wait is something wrong with the twins?"
" The twins are fine, considering what you put them through to save your brother."
Shit! Kyoko stepped forward to try touch her but Anele stepped back and folded her arms over her breasts.
" It's not what you think babe."
Anele scoffed.
" So you didn't take my kids to a private clinic, probably owned by your family, and have them tested to see if they were a match and then have them donate bone marrow to your brother without my consent?"
" Bab-"
" Then you have the nerve to tell them to keep this a secret from me. You teach my children to lie to me all for your brother."
Kyoko cussed her brother silently. She was convinced he had something to do with this, he suddenly wants to be a responsible father and now this.
" You tricked me into believing you were sorry and remorseful for your past actions , that you cared about my children and that you still loved me just to get a donor for your brother."
"It's not like that."
" Oh I'm sorry, I've got it all wrong. Would you care to explain how it is?."
Kyoko stood silent for a few seconds with her hands in her pockets thinking of a way to explain herself without losing Anele but her mind went blank, she could not think of anything.
" My parents made me do it."
It started out lowly that Kyoko thought she was crying, Anele had her head down and all Kyoko could see was the repetitive movement of her shoulders, but when she stepped forward to comfort her, Anele looked up at her laughing.
" Are you a fucking child Kyoko or do you take me for a fool!?"
Her voice went up an octave.
" Why am I even asking you that, you do take me for a foo-"
" I don't take you for a fool."
" No you do!, because if you didn't you wouldn't have done what you did. If you respected me you would've been honest from the go."
By now Kyoko was frustrated, Kenji had thrown her under the bus and Anele would not let her explain.
" Listen!"
Kyoko raised her voice, shocking Anele who wondered who she thought she was talking to but she pulled a chair and sat down to listen.
" I'm sorry I raised my voice."
Anele stayed silent.
" Kenji has always been sickly since childhood and he was mostly on treatment but then he developed leukaemia a year ago. We were all tested to see if we could be a match but none of us were. That's also around the time he came clean about fathering the twins. Obviously he didn't know they were twins then."
Kyoko explained.
" After we got tested and found not to be a match, Kenji asked the doctor if his child could be a match. We all looked at him crazy because we knew of no child he had. Anyway he confirmed that children could donate if they matched."
