Chapter 35

Ahaan

God, the way she flushed, I like that way too much that I would allow myself to admit.

Her all-flushed face was running through my head when I got a call from Dadi

"Hello Dadi"

"Hello, kya baat hai lagta meeting kafi achi gyi, awaz se hi muskan jhalak raha hai" I guess I was sound too happy for my own good

"It seems the meeting went very well; the smile is visible in the voice itself."

"Kuch kaam tha aapko Dadi"

"Topic change, ohho, that's new, but I like it" She is in a teasing mood today

"Invite her for dinner on Saturday"

"Ohh, she can't"

"Why, do you have something planned for her" Again that teasing voice

"Dadi, she is leaving for Delhi"

"Ohh, why, everything okay there?"

"She said her Nani called this morning and said they have puja at home" I was too lost at that time I guess when she shared the news but when I think now, I feel something is fishy there

"I think you should go with her" all teasing gone; she sounds a little doubtful

"But..."

"No, but...Ahaan, you will go with her and that's my order"

"What if Ahana refuses to take me with her" Although I did want to go with her, leaving her alone there with the people who were not there when she needed them the most seemed like the wrong thing to do.

"I will talk to her, you book the tickets, meri bahu ko koi takleef hui to tere kaan kheench dungi mai" Dadi warned and cut the call

"If my daughter-in-law faced any problem, I will pull your ears."

Her "meri-bahu" comment makes my stomach flutter.

Booking two tickets for Delhi I sent her a text with tickets.

It was Dadi who suggested I go with you to Delhi so I booked the ticket. I hope you don't have any problem with that.

After a few minutes, her reply came,

You don't have to worry about anything, about Dadi's order. I can't deny that but about the tickets, since it's me who is bothering you, I should have booked the tickets only.

I replied instantly

There is nothing to worry about.

Why did she think she was bothering me? If she was bothering me, I would not have agreed to go with her. Did people around her make her feel that way?

And then I realized I did have to do my research about this Kapoor family and I called Rehaan, "Hello" his hoarse voice came from another end

"Did someone finally choke you to death?" he coughed

"Thank you for your concern, asshole, sad for you I am still alive and will be Afterall you are my soulmate" he struggled to speak properly

"Ok, who strangled you to death" the idiot laughed which made me smile

"Did I hear concern Mr. Malhotra, god, it must be sun rose from the west today" he coughed but continued "Since you asked so nicely, I had a lot of drink last night"

"Didn't someone tell you dogs can't consume alcohol, it's bad for them" This time I laughed

"Very funny, fuck you" he seethed in his croaky voice.

"Okay, I have some work for you, give me a detailed report about this Kapoor family."

"Why, what happened?"

"I will tell you later, first information, and take some medicine, take care"

"Indeed, today the sun rose from the west." and he hung up

There is this nagging feeling about everything about this sudden call to Ahana for puja. I am glad Dadi told me to go with her.

Is there something wrong with this call to Ahana to meet her family, or are they just overthinking?
