Chapter 73

Ahana

"Do you want to do this, Ahana?" he asked softly, his voice laced with concern. I nodded and we left for his car hand-in-hand.

I closed my eyes, wrestling with the question. Did I want to see him? The man who abandoned my mother, the one who caused her so much heartache, the one who dared to try and take my life? The answer was a resounding no. But a stronger voice whispered in my heart. My Mumma deserved closure, answers to the questions that must have haunted her.

Why did he leave? Was he ever truly in love? Did he have regrets? And the most pressing question – why did he want his daughter to marry Ahaan so desperately? Why Ahaan?

A shiver ran down my spine as a chilling realization dawned on me. Maybe the reason for the marriage wasn't just to get his daughter married to Ahaan at all. Perhaps Kabir Rana had a history with Ahaan's family, a reason he wanted his daughter so close to them. My blood ran cold at the thought.

The car lurched to a stop, jolting me back to the present. We were here. After months of searching, the man responsible for so much pain was finally within reach. A cocktail of emotions swirled within me – anger, resentment, a flicker of curiosity. Ahaan noticed my turmoil and squeezed my hand reassuringly. We hadn't spoken much during the ride; the enormity of the situation hung heavy in the air.

I looked around, there were only trees that surrounded this place. The only sound that can be heard is of birds chirping other than that the eerie silence makes this place look haunted. This looks like a mini jungle. No one is around to hear your cry if got killed here. Is that why Uncle Verma brought Rana here? The idea should have not sat well with me considering I have never imagined myself hurting someone but I guess everyone has their dark side.

I was so lost looking at the Jungle and in my head that I didn't make a move to get out of the car. Ahaan gave my hand a gentle squeeze breaking my train of thought, I looked at him, and our eyes locked, no words needed to be exchanged. He gave me my space all the way here. He allowed me not to come here. He was willing to handle Rana for me. We were lost in each other's eyes when,

A tap on the window shattered the moment we were in. There stood Reyaan, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes despite his gruff tone. "Agar aap Pyaar ke Panchiyon ka Gutar-gu ho gya hai, to wo kaam kar le jiske liye ham yahna aayen hain?"

"If you lovebirds are done cooing, perhaps we can get on with why we're here?"

Ahaan glared at his best friend. I chuckled and the moment of seriousness lightened a bit. But my chest tightened as we exited the car, Ahaan held my hand and we started walking towards the Mini Jungle.

I just want a few answers from Rana and nothing else. I have no intention of telling him who I am. He can only know me as Ahaan Malhotra's wife, the one he tried getting kill.

As we walked towards the place where Rana is the air hung heavy with an unsettling silence, broken only by the chirping of unseen birds and the rustling of dried leaves under our feet.

Ahaan's thumb kept circling the inside of my wrist, something he does when is trying to control himself. I looked at him but his eyes were trained on the path. The love I feel for this man increases day by day. I didn't know what I would have done without him. He is light to my darkness. I squeezed his hand in reassurance and he held mine tighter, giving me a smile which doesn't even reach his eyes.

After a few minutes of walking, we reached a place where it was just trees and branches. It's the middle of the day but still, there is not much sunlight that can reach this part of the forest. We walked in tense silence, the only sound the crunch of gravel beneath our feet. We saw Uncle Verma standing beside a house that looked like it was straight from a haunted movie. The discolored wall, the patches of cement falling out of the wall, and those windows almost covered in spider webs, it's a picture-perfect house for a haunted film.

"Hello," Uncle Verma greeted Ahaan as he hugged him, patted my hair in a loving gesture, and shook hands with Reyaan.

"Everything Alright?" Reyaan asked Uncle Verma, "Yes," Uncle replied and started walking towards the main door of the house, where two well-built guards were guarding the door. They looked like they could kill anybody with a snap of their finger.

Putting a hand on my shoulder Ahaan led me inside. The inside of this is nothing like the outside. It's well-cleaned like you could live here if needed. No spider-web or dust. The three of us followed Uncle Verma, passing a hallway. Almost at the end of the hallway, I could see another two guards standing in the same position as the ones at the door. They look like someone you don't want to offend by even breathing in the wrong way. They are almost 6'3 or maybe more than that. They look more like a giant rock than human.

One of them opened the door and we entered, the air hung thick in the room as four of us stood there. Uncle Verma and Reyaan are blocking my view of what is in front of them. Uncle Verma walked first still blocking my view of the person who was going to answer my question. Uncle tapped his shoulder, "Rana...Rana...Rana". I heard a grunted voice but it was muffled.

The moment uncle side-stepped I met with the person who was the reason for my mother's heartache. Tied to the chair he doesn't look like anything in the picture. Uncle Removed the cloth that was tied around his mouth. He stayed silent, I thought he was going to scream but he stayed silent just staring hard at me. There was not a single scratch on his face other than a bump on the right side of his forehead. He stared hard at me, something was shifting in his eyes.

Ahaan squeezed my shoulder in reassurance. I looked at him but he was staring at Rana with so much hatred that it could burn Rana alive. I held his hand and his body visibly relaxed.

OOHOO....Finally...face-to-face with the real villain
