"hey," you whisper, your voice trembling as you try to stabilize his head in your arms. "hey, stay with me." you say. your heart drops as you see a crimson stain spread across his chest.

his eyes flutter open, a weak smile forming on his lips as he sees you. "there you are," he rasps, his voice barely audible over the noise of the battle.

"i'm here," you say, tears streaming down your face. "i'm right here. you're going to be okay." you say.

he coughs, a pained sound that sends a shiver down your spine. "don't lie to me," he says, his usual playful tone now filled with a sad resignation. "we both know how this ends." he says.

"no," you insist, your hands shaking as you try to stop the bleeding. "you can't leave me. not now. not like this." you say.

"it's okay," he murmurs, his hand reaching up to touch your face. "you're the best thing that's ever happened in my life.. i'm so glad i met you.." he says.

"don't talk like that," you say, choking on your sobs. "we have so much more time. we have forever."  you say.

he smiles again, a bittersweet expression that breaks your heart. "forever, huh? sounds nice." he says.

"please, mattheo." you beg, pressing your forehead against his. "don't leave me." you say.

"i don't want to," he whispers, his breath growing shallower. "but i don't have a choice." he says.

"i love you," he says, his voice barely more than a breath. "and i'll love you forever, until my last breath." he says.

you clutch him tighter, feeling his life slipping away with every passing second. "i love you too," you say, the words spilling out before you can stop them. "i love you so much." you say.

his eyes light up briefly, a spark of the boy you fell for shining through. "i promise to find you in my next lifetime and every single one after that.." he says.

with those final words, he takes one last shuddering breath and goes still in your arms. you sob, a sound of pure anguish that echoes through the battlefield, but it can't bring him back. it can't change the fact that the person you love the most is gone, leaving you with nothing but memories and a shattered heart.

the world around you fades into a blur as you hold him close, wishing desperately for more time, for a different ending, for anything but this. but all you can do is mourn and remember the love that burned so brightly.
