draco malfoy: dying in your arms in the middle of a battle

"no, no, no," you whisper, tears blurring your vision. "stay with me, please." you say.

he looks up at you, his usually sharp eyes now dull with pain, but a weak smile still manages to tug at his lips. "hey," he murmurs, his voice barely audible over the noise of the battle. "fancy seeing you here." he says.

"don't joke," you say, choking back a sob. "we need to get you help." you say.

he shakes his head slightly, grimacing in pain. "it's too late for that. you know it." he says.

you press your hand against his wound, trying to stop the bleeding, but it's useless. "no, we can still-" you say.

"shh," he interrupts, reaching up to cup your cheek with a trembling hand. "listen to me. i'm glad... i'm glad i got to see you. even if it's like this." he says.

"stop talking like that," you plead, tears streaming down your face. "you're going to be fine. just hold on." you say.

he gives a weak chuckle that turns into a cough, blood staining his lips. "i always thought... if i had to go, i'd want it to be with you. didn't think it would actually happen." he says.

"please," you whisper, your voice breaking. "draco, no don't leave me." you say.

his eyes soften, and he squeezes your hand with the last of his strength. "i love you," he says, his voice barely more than a breath. "more than you know." he says.

his hand clings onto yours as your tears fall onto his face. "i love you too," you manage to say, your heart shattering.

he smiles, a peaceful look crossing his face. "thank you... for everything," he whispers, his grip on your hand tightening for a moment, then loosening as his eyes close for the last time.

you feel the life leave his body, his hand going limp in yours. "no," you sob, holding his lifeless hand to your chest. "please, come back. please." you say.

but it's too late. he's gone, and you're left holding his hand, the battle raging on around you, your world forever changed by the loss of the one person who meant everything to you.
