Stand tall and shield you from the world,
Walk besides you, step by step,
For as long as you let me.

Fade into the shadows,
If that's what brings you peace.
You won't hear from me again
If that's what it takes
To help you move on.
I would lay down my life for you,
But I will never turn against you.
I can never imagine myself hating you.
I can endure every battle life throws,
Yet the weight of your absence crushes me.
When you chose to leave,
You decided for both of us--
I know it broke your heart,
But still, you walked away.
That makes you stronger
Than I ever was.
I am strong enough for anything,
Except the hollow space you left behind.
