From Afar, I'll Love You

I've learned to love you from a distance,

People come and go, as you did with me.

I know I had you once, and in my heart

I believe it was meant to be.

Though we didn't last until the end,

It doesn't take away the beauty we had—

We weren't each other's final chapter,

But I was your middle, and you my beginning.

I still watch your stories, glimpses of your joy,

see glimpses of who you've become—

though I don't know your favorite songs now,

or how you spend your days.

It doesn't matter.

Your happiness is enough for me,

And I smile when I see you happy and free.

I'm nothing more than a side character now,

But once, I was your main, and that's enough for me.

I'll always be your biggest supporter,

In all the things you choose to pursue—

I'll love you quietly, from afar,

For as long as I live, I'll cheer for you.
