If by chance, we're not meant to be,
I hope you find a love as deep as mine, you see.
Someone who knows you like I always knew,
That you can't sleep with the slightest light breaking through.
Someone who understands your side of the bed,
That you sleep on the left, closer to the door,
Where you rest your head.
Someone who knows you love dogs, but you refrain,
Because their loss would bring you unbearable pain.
May she love to travel, just as you do,
A companion for the journeys that set your spirit free,
So you never have to wander alone, without glee.
If in the end, it's not us, let it be someone true,
Who'll care for you deeply, the way I used to.
Who'll make you soup when you're feeling weak,
And won't let you work with a fevered streak.
Let her be kind, someone who'll cherish every part,
Who'll learn you like I did, with all her heart.
If we're not meant to be, then let her be
The one who loves you as deeply as me.
