Tangled Hearts

If you were to ask me where my heart lies,

I'd say it's tangled in the space between yes and no,

Caught in the in-between of love and letting go,

For him, my heart made it's silence choice—

But the world, it seems, had other plans for us.

We love in whispers, in the cracks of broken days,

Where we try to hold ourselves together,

But the threads we grasp unravel.

Today, we're trying so hard not to lose who we are,

That we're losing what we've always been—

Two souls dancing, but never quite in step.

I want him, God knows I do,

I want to make this work, to rewrite the script

Where we're more than almost lovers,

Where we don't stumble through the dark.

But today? Today we just can't seem to get it right.

We're two hearts fighting battles apart,

Each dealing with demons, each waging our own wars,

And maybe, just maybe,

In trying to save ourselves, we forgot how to love.

I want to believe, but hope—

Hope is slipping like sand between my fingers.

So if you ask me if I'm taken, if I'm his—

I'd say it's complicated.

Because the truth is, I belong to him

But I don't know if we belong together.

Not today. Not now.

But oh, how I wish we did.
