All through the ride to the hanger and the flight to Washington, Travis was either on a phone call or just busy get work done.

I mostly slept all through the flight, I was so wearied out. I wasn't in the mood to travel but I had no choice, did I?

Good thing the flight was just 4 hours, we arrived at a little past 3 pm. We arrived at the town house he bought.

He seems to a have a house everywhere.

They also had a family house here but I'm thinking he refrained from going there because it had memories about his Father.

While in the car, "Jeffrey will take you to the house, I'll have to make a stop somewhere" he informed and I only hummed in response.

Minutes later, he dropped him with his people at some place and we continued the ride. I leaned back on the seat and just stared out to the city.

My phone began ringing, I smiled when I saw the contact ID. "Hey Mrs Ferrari, have you guys landed yet?" Kourtney teased.

"Yes like half an hour ago, how are things over there?" I asked. "Why don't you ask the person you put in charge?"

"I can't get through to Bethany "

"That's because she's become invested in the event, she doesn't take calls if you aren't talking money" she replied. "Well, I'm her boss, I'm always talking money" I muttered

"Anyways, how's your cruise with your hubby?" She asked and I glanced at the vacant seat beside. "You remember we are here for business, right?"

"Y'all always having honeymoon in different states" she crooned and I rolled my eyes. "Do you have anything else to say, Kourtney?"

"Safe trip"

We arrived at the townhouse, and I paused, staring up at the building. It had a clear field in front of it, and the structure looked more like a manor with the way it spread across the surrounding area. It was huge.

As I walked in, I was greeted by the massive living room. This house had a more lively tone; everything was mostly white. My eyes were drawn to the open bar at the far end, and I was silently grateful for its presence.

I made my way to the stairs and headed up. My room had everything I brought neatly arranged. After settling in, I took a bath and headed downstairs for lunch.

Walking into the dining room, I found Jeffrey standing there. No one else was around. The table was laden with various dishes. Would Travis be joining?

I took my seat and began eating, occasionally glancing at the empty chair where he should have been. Letting out a sigh, I tried to focus on my meal.

My eyes shot open, and I was staring into darkness. Slowly sitting up, I glanced at the window. The night was pitch black, no moonlight, no stars, just endless dark.

A faint noise reached my ears, drawing my attention. I turned toward the door. The hallway outside was dimly lit, but the noises persisted—grunting, footsteps, something unsettling.

My hand shot to the lamp beside the bed. I switched it on and carefully got out of bed. Shadows moved under the door, faint and fleeting, but unmistakable.

Heart pounding in my chest, I stepped back. The rhythm of my pulse roared in my ears. Then, just as quickly as they appeared, the shadows retreated.

Summoning courage, I took a hesitant step toward the door. My hands shook, but I grasped the doorknob, twisting it gently. The door creaked open, revealing an empty hallway.

I stepped out, the silence weighing heavily on me. The corridor stretched ahead, quiet and still. My steps were as light as air as I made my way toward the stairs.

At the base of the staircase, I stopped. The noises had stopped, but the unease lingered. Where were they coming from? Who had been in the hallway?

Just as I reached the last step, Jeffrey appeared in front of me.

"Oh my gosh!" I yelped, raising my hands defensively, ready to strike if necessary.

He stood there, completely unfazed. "Do you need anything, Mrs. Ferrari?" His voice was calm, even as I struggled to steady my breathing.

"I... I heard noises," I stammered, pointing back up the stairs. "Someone was there. But when I came out, there was no one."

"It was me," he replied smoothly. "I'm sorry if I woke you up."

I frowned, my confusion evident. "But I heard noises too. What's going on?"

"Everything is okay, Mrs. Ferrari. Please feel relaxed and enjoy your night," he said, his tone polite but unconvincing.

Despite his reassurances, the unease remained. Something wasn’t right. Glancing behind him, the darkness loomed, thick and unyielding. Jeffrey, however, stood motionless, his demeanor unreadable.

Reluctantly, I decided to take him at his word. Turning back, I headed upstairs. But deep down, I knew something was wrong.
