29. Muddy Flower

Parkers Pov:

My father tells me how there are ferals ready to break into the city. I can't believe it. I need to find Bai. I need to make sure she's okay. The kings come and talk about how we are all going to flee from the city.

"I can't go. We haven't found where Bai is and if she's okay." I tell them with a bit of a growl.

"Parker, sit down cub." My father roars out.

"Father, you would do the same for Mother." I tell him. To that, the Ape king steps forward.

"Young cub, I had the Leopard King send scouting parties out to see what's happening outside the walls. Leopard King, if you will." The Ape King says, and I just scowl at him. It's his fault Bai got lost. They also went after us when we did nothing wrong. I see a few Eagle scouts walk in. My father nods to them.

"My Kings. We seen more ferals fit for fighting outside the walls. If we fought, we would lose. We don't have enough able fighters in the city. Also, we spotted a female leading a group of these beastman feral to attack. We believe it's the new female who arrived here with Parker." The Eagle says.

"No, no way you're all lying! I won't believe it! My Bai is kind." I roar.

"Parker, the scouts all came back confirming the same report." My father says. I won't hear it!

"You are all just doing this cause you don't like my female!" I say as I storm out of the castle. I see many beastman running around. Some are packing to flee. I go over to a very tall tree and I climb it. There is no way my Bai would do something like this. I climb to the top and see countless ferals and rootless beastman. Then my heart shatters. My ears go down flat against my head. I see Bai.. my Bai.. being held by some ferals with their marks. Bai... she looks different. Her eyes don't have the kindness to them anymore. I climb down the tree and start to grab my things. I decided to just leave my head down in shame. They were all right.. why didn't i see it? Was I in the wrong?.. I loved her so much I just couldn't accept it. I wanted to please her, so I stood by her no matter what.

I turned everyone against me.. I wipe the tears with my arm. Holding my only belongings, my sack is full of my things. I reach in looking at a carved wooden Bai. I just drop it and keep walking. I see other beastman with their females running past me fleeing. I have nothing. I just wanted a beautiful, kind female. I guess I only saw her beauty and not the rest. She never cared about me.
I really am a idiot..

I walk wherever at this point I don't care. Then I hear it. Screams, growls, and the breaking of the city gate. I have to help them. So I turned into my leopard form and charged to attack.

~hours later~

most of all got out. only a few of us male stayed to ensure the females got away. My legs are about to give out. As I Exhaustedly swing at a feral who's almost dead. I finally finish the kill.
Looking around, I hear a little female cub crying. I run over seeing her family dead. I pick her up with my mouth and run from the city as more ferals are pouring in from the broken wall.
I run, seeing the jungle i run into crevasse and check for predators. I smell none. I put down the female cub and check her. Thankfully, she's okay. I shift and fix my furs. I take the female and hold her, trying to get her to calm down.

"Cub, I'll protect you, okay?" I nuzzle to her to hopefully sooth her to sleep.
I hear her stomach growl at me.
She's hungry. I look her over she's about two seasons. I can't leave you while I hunt. So I pick her up looking for fruit and wood, maybe sticks.

Finally.. I sit holding the cub. I looked at my pile of everything that took way to longer to gather. I open a fruit for her, and she happily eats it. I nod in satisfaction. I start a fire and start making a basket to carry the cub in.

"Do you know your name, cub?" I ask. She just gives me a juice faced smile. Aww... I pat her head.
So, no name? Hmm..

"What about Elodie? Cause you're dirty from what happened, but you're a beautiful flower still." I nod she just grabs me and stands eating the fruit.
Elodie it is. I remember what Bai used to use to bathe, so I put Elodie in the basket and went to get her bathed. I find a few wolves, so I hide Elodie and kill the wolves. When we get back, I start working on the furs. I cook the meat too. I go outside, grabbing grass. Making a nest, I grab some meat and feed Elodie. Finally, she's full and sleeps in my arms. I hold her gently. I eat while holding her. I rub her pretty dark red hair. Such a cute cub. I close off the crevasse opening. And I turn into my leopard for snuggling Elodie to keep her warm. It's not much, but I'll do everything I can to take care of you.

Waking up with a groan, I stretch and feel Elodie playing with my fur. I let out a purr. Slowly, I move a bit to help her down off of me so she won't hurt herself. I shift back, fixing my furs. I go check the furs I worked on last night. It's not done yet, but it will be. Picking up the basket, I placed her in it. I grab leftover meat and hand her small pieces to eat. I take her outside with me to the creek and get her some water.

"Well, Elodie, let's go until we find somewhere. Okay?"
I walk in my leopard form with the basket in my mouth. Finally I spot a small village. We go in, and I get weird looks. I go to the market to see if they have furs just until the furs are fully cured. I find some furs that are soft and good, so I buy 10 for two crystals

I also buy food for her that will be perfect for the travel since I'm one male taking care of her. I also happened to find a comb for her hair, and I bought it.
I look at my pouch. Ha.. only seven more crystals left. We are still too close to the city. This Bear tribe seems to also be on alert.

"We shouldn't stay here, Elodie. We should find another place. Don't worry, once we find a place we can call home, you'll be much happier." I whisper at her. She's asleep, which is good. Perfect time to get going. I think that ug..other female went north with Rosa. I should try to just go north, too.
I start to travel north. We gave the city a wide birth so we don't run into ferals. I stick to sneaking and covering our scent.

I find a nice cave, and my tired legs feel a bit numb. Checking the cave out, there is no scent of ferals or beasts. This will do for tonight. Grabbing a fruit I had picked on the way here, I peeled it for Elodie and started a fire to cook the few rabbits I killed on the way. I feed her the cooked meat.

"Unfortunately, there's no salt at the last village. I'll find you some when we get to another village." I rub her back. We both lost someone, didn't we Elodie. That's okay. I will raise you. Then when you're older, I'll make sure the males you choose are good males for you. I set up the nest once again. Grabbing the comb from my pouch, I brush Elodie's hair. I rub her hair with the spikey plant goo. That female told others this helps with female hair.
I get her ready for sleep she lays down and finally goes to bed. A bit fussy. I sit by her and continue working on the wolf pelts. Grabbing a nice few rabbit pelts, they are soft. I make Elodi a nice dress. I place other pelts in her basket as well.

"You'll be more comfortable tomorrow little cub." I quietly say. I have to be more cautious about females. I have to make sure Elodie is safe now that she's my responsibility. Her whole family died. She only has me who she doesn't know.
Looking at her sadly. Elodie don't worry you will be a happy cub. I promise. I lay down beside her in my leopard form pulling a fur over Elodie to stay warm. I sleep lightly in case. I'm sorry beast God.. for the things I did. Ha.. sleep good cub.

What do you think? I wanted Parker to grow in this story. He's not a bad guy. He just is immature. So now his redemption arch has started. He's learning and growing in the process of taking care of a orphan. He will only get better from here. Do you think Bai is able to redeem herself? I think it's possible for anyone to.
