44. Winston the Builder

Winston's Pov:

Paige tells me her ideas and roughly draws it in dirt. We know about the fireplace, but a stone hearth is what she wants in the kitchen. I see the usefulness of a hearth. You can still use it for heat and cooking. It also has a clay and stone oven. I nod to Paige. Of course, I'll do anything to keep her warm. She gets dragged back inside the house, and we start working on it. While Curtis gets us clay. Caspian gets shells for us. He had already found the clear stone for the windows. Damian and .Muir is putting those up. Kaden is helping Holly and Rosa on what they can do to build. Harvey went to see if there was wool to buy and cotton. We did bring the wool and cotton things from the previous place with us, but Paige said she wants more to make more things.
We also kept most of our clay pots, but some did get destroyed in the move. Paige wasn't mad.

We wait for Curtis. He comes back finally so we can start building.
He has a big rock full of green clay. Odd..

"This green clay is everywhere. Do you think Paige will hate it?" We all stop to look at him.

"Let's ask her." Curtis and I go over to where Paige is. She's wrapped in furs with Shuu and the egg.

"I looked, but this is the clay I found. Do you not like it?" Curtis shows it to Paige.

"Oh wow, that's pretty! I love that color. We need more cause in between the logs we need to put clay there to keep the house warm. All you do is find limestone it's a white rock and usually near water in the ground. Then mix wood ash. First, you have to cook the limestone in a fire and, after you crush it and mix with wood ash and water. We're in a fox village, and they dig. See if they discarded any lime stone somewhere."

"That's a smart idea, Paige, we'll ask."

Leaving the house I started to walk twords the more busy part of the village. I see Harvey looking at the stuff for sale.
I start asking around about discarded stone. One male points to a big hill. So I go over looking down and sure enough that might be it. A lot of it.

Caspian's Pov:

I found random broken shells, but I also found good big circular ones to hold a luminous pearl to hold it up. I think she will like them. Swimming around, I notice this water is warm.
I find some nice coral, too. All I do is follow the river to the sea. I spot a mer clan member. He looks like he's from the Kelpy Clan.

"What brings you this close to our city?" He asks me.

"Well, I'm collecting things for my female." I explain.

"Your female? Your clan is no more. Where did you get a mer clan female?" I sigh.

"My female is not Mer Clan. She's on land." He looks at me in discust. I give him a glare back.

"So you were desperate enough to want an ugly dark land female?" He laughs. I grab him by the throat.

"You laugh at my female anymore, and I'll rip your tongue out and feed it back to you." I threaten. He nods.

"Now swim away." I grunt. He swims away fast, headed deep below. Stupid clan..
I swim away, still keeping an eye out. I decided to make a bubble to help hold all the shells. I spot crab.. hmm.. I can always bring back things to eat.

Paige's Pov:

They finish just before nighttime. But the fireplace has to dry before we can use it. Caspian comes back with crab, fish, and a ton of shells. Muir sets up the luminous pears temporarily until we can wash all the shells up. Kaden walks in, looking tired. I see it in all of their eyes. Aww.
So I decided I'll cook crab. So I grab my oil jar and some seasoning, the crab, fish, vegetables, and rice. Winston brings the pot for me and the bamboo tube's. Curtis gets water for me. And Damian holds me close to keep warm. Harvey and Shuu are still keeping my egg warm inside the house. Unfortunately, i have to cook outside cause our hearth is still drying.
I cook the crab in boiling water and rice in the tube's with water rotating them every now and then. After I unshell the crab meat. I get a smaller pot cooking up vegetables. Not all my hubby's like vegetables but Lucien, Caspian, and Muir like them like I do. I stir fry the vegetables with salt, pepper, oil, garlic, rosemary, and onion. The vegetables I use are morel mushrooms, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, carrots, bok Choi, and broccoli. It smells so good. I add the fish to a few skewers. After everything is done, I plate everyone. I noticed we have a lot of fish and I mean a lot.. well, I hope they are hungry. We go back inside.

"Thank you Paige it's delicious!" Harvey tells me he's still laying beside our egg.
I see nods from my hubby's they all eat with gusto. Caspian looks up, shocked with the dish I made.

"Do..do you like it?" I ask him.

"It's the best I've eaten." I grin.

"Yay!" I do a little dance.
After we clean up and go to bed. I'm cuddling my most warmest hubby's tonight. Poor Curtis.. I ended up pulling him into the furs, too. Just because I don't cuddle him directly doesn't mean he has to curl up in the cold. Hmm.. tomorrow, I'm making a big mattress, and I'll sew a bunch of furs together for a big blanket.

I wake up overheated. I climb over my hubby's into Curtis's arms. Fuck I'm over heated so bad. I hug him so close he looks over at me.
He touches my face. I start to feel better.

"Paige?.. Harvey!"

Curtis's Pov:

"Harvey is Paige sick?" He gets up coming over. He feels Paiges forehead.

"She has a fever. I need to make her medicine." All of us are fully awake at this point.

"Probably from me.. it's my fault she's sick." Muir says feeling bad.

"She will be okay. I'll go get some short bird to make her soup." Shuu tells us. Good idea.

"I'll check the fireplaces to see if they are ready. And I'll get wood." Winston gets up leaving the room.

"I have a bison to catch so she can have her steak." Lucien leaves.
Now she has two food options.

"She wanted tea I'll go help Harvey collect the things he needs." Muir adds.

"Okay, we will watch Paige." I tell them.
I prop Paige up a bit cause she starts coughing. I rub her back. Worried she will get worse in this weather.
Winston comes into the room to start a fire to get the cold out of the room.
Caspian sits by Paige rubbing her hair. Harvey comes in with medicine. We wake up Paige enough to drink the medicine.

"Harvey, what can we do to help Paige?" Damian asks.

"Finish the house. She wanted to put clay in between the logs to keep the cold out." He explains. Kaden, Damian, and Winston nod. They go outside starting to work on getting the house fixed.
Caspian works on keeping our cub warm so she can hatch.
I move Paige off of me so she can stay warm, but I keep rubbing her forehead to keep the fever down.

I do have a question for everyone.
I'm working on ideas for her house does anybody wish to see it? Most people like to leave it to their imagination but some have trouble so if you want I can post pictures of what it looks like of course this would be what it looks like when her house is fully done. ❤️
