Midoriya POV
Being able to participate in part of one of Shota's outdoor lessons again was fun. Of course it wasn't combat or anything, which I was itching to get back into at this point, but nonetheless the feeling of being surrounded by my classmates and friends while doing an exercise instead of watching from the sidelines while I did mobility work or practiced walking and lifting light weights was really nice. I hadn't realized quite how left out I'd felt.
Hitoshi helped me with most of the stretches, and while he was by far the most flexible out of himself, Uraraka, Todoroki and I, the other two were still substantially better than myself and about half of the rest of the class. It was a little embarrassing to be reminded again how behind my physical level is, though this time I knew it wasn't just because of what I'd been through. I was mostly severely inflexible because I never bothered to take care of my body in that aspect before.
All too soon it was over though, and Recovery Girl didn't want me participating in the race the class had decided on. She said she had a few more things to go over with me before the end of the day, calling me over while what felt like the rest of the class watched on.
"Alright, Dear. Remember what I told you yesterday, I won't be doing physical therapy with you over the break. You've come far enough along now that you can continue on your own and with Aizawa's help. I've cleared you with him to start working on strength training and fighting again, but I want to make things very clear. Aizawa knows this, but you are going to start out small and slow." She stressed the words as if speaking in a language I wasn't familiar with. I was a little embarrassed, she spoke as if she knew all too well how prone I was to pushing myself. I guess if anyone were to know at this point it would be her. She has to see the outcome every time it's happened, after all. At least I won't be going to her for any quirk-related bone-breaking?
"I don't want any phone calls telling me you've overworked or hurt yourself. I also still expect you to work on the things we've been doing in your sessions, too. You have to be very careful and listen to your body's needs. I do not want to see you in my office this summer. Understood?"
"Of course," I nod at her, feeling a little guilty. "I'll take care of my body, I promise."
She looked at me for a long moment before nodding decisively. "This is for you," she hands me a packet with a few pieces of paper. "There's a page on treating sore muscles, a page on joint pain, and one on soreness caused by old injuries like broken bones. Oh, and one for scar tissue. I put it together with your specific past injuries and current physical state in mind. I want you to give these to either Aizawa or Yamada, so they can help you if you're ever in pain, as long as it's not too serious. They should know all of this already but," she sighs dramatically, "you heroes never take care of your bodies. Drives me crazy. I wouldn't have to use my quirk so much if they all just did the bare minimum for their bodies." She makes a sound of annoyance, shaking her head.
I nod at her quietly, unsure exactly of what to say.
"That reminds me," Recovery Girl drew a small container out of her pocket as she spoke, "You're probably running out of that scar cream I gave you right about now so I'll give you-" her eyes narrowed at the look on my face which most definitely just flashed from realization to overwhelming guilt in a matter of seconds. "You... haven't been using it, have you?"
"Sorry, I forgot." I picked at my nails instead of looking at her. It wasn't a total lie, I had eventually forgotten. But that's because when she'd first given it to me I was too embarrassed to ask Hitoshi to apply it—there was no way I would have willingly let him see what they did to me—and I couldn't bear to do it myself, even in the places that were easily reachable. So I tucked it away somewhere, under Hitoshi's sink before he moved into my old room, and now I'm not sure where it's gone.
