A/N: anybody else get bothered when things taste very different from how they smell? It feels like I've been lied to.
Trigger Warning: most of the chapter centers around trying not to throw up and gagging. I'm not sure how it ended up this way, sorry.
Have fun reading!
Midoriya POV
Shota returned right around the time I'd managed to exhaust myself of questions and finish my preliminary notes on the one and only Present Mic's official gear. I was thanking Hizashi so profusely for letting me see his gear up close that I nearly missed the sound of a key turning in the lock and Shota opening the door.
He looked soggy as he came in, grumbling about a sudden downpour. Sure enough I looked out the window and saw that it was, indeed, raining heavily outside. I couldn't say when it had started because I'd definitely been too invested in the gear for the last who knows how many hours to notice any weather change.
"Welcome home, hon."
Shota gave a grunt in response.
He hefted up a plastic takeaway bag and set it on the crowded table next to the gear and my notebook, after shedding most of his wet layers and tying his jumpsuit at the waist in the genkan.
As for the three of us who had already been in the living room, all of our eyes zeroed in on the bag.
"Izuku's medicine?" Hizashi asked, shifting an earpiece and his shoulder speakers away from the wet bag.
Shota nodded and Hizashi carefully reached to take an unlabeled brown paper box out of the plastic.
"Any instructions on how to take it?" He continued as he opened the box, carefully sliding the top flap open.
Shota shook his head this time, and we watched as his husband pulled a glass bottle out of the padding in the box, looking exactly like it did in the posters at the office. The liquid inside was that same strange orange hue, but when it caught the light i noticed some pale floaty bits suspended in the liquid. It didnt seem all that appetizing.
"Any side effects?" Hizashi was still asking questions.
"He said nausea's common. Apparently doesn't taste all that great. Good news," he directed the next bit at me, "while you do have to down the whole thing, apparently it'll still do the job on the off chance you throw it up." The blonde swirled the liquid once, then grimaced.
"Can we dilute it with something so it won't taste as bad?" He spares me the quickest of glances, then looks back to Shota. The man is headed towards the bedroom, presumably to get out of his wet jumpsuit, but pauses in the hallway.
"Not sure, wouldn't risk it. I'd down it quickly and follow it with water to wash away the taste."
Hizashi seems to think seriously about this information. He doesn't act at all surprised about the weird packaging or lack of prescription labels, so I assume he knows about the situation and the fact that we did not go to a medical professional. I guess it makes sense, no regular medicine would fix nerve damage and what is basically a poorly reconstructed hand at this point.
"I'll go get some water." Hizashi gives me a tight smile, carefully setting the bottle back into the box and standing to go to the kitchen.
I turn to Hitoshi and he takes my hand to squeeze it gently. "Excited?" He asks.
I shrug, stealing a glance at the box. "I'd really rather not throw up tonight, but..."
"It's worth it if it means your hand's all fixed up?" He guesses.
