A/N: writing this fic so far has revealed to me that I have a lot of bad writing habits I need to work on. It's both interesting and mildly infuriating
Have fun reading!
Midoriya POV
Waking is a slow process. It begins with something warm, secure, and comforting that I can't recall having felt in what seems like a long while. Followed by this feeling, however, is a headache which comes on as I inch further into the realm of consciousness. My face feels stiff, and when I force my eyes open after a few seconds—or maybe minutes—of just laying in the quiet of the room, my eyelids are crusty. Ah, so I fell asleep crying.
I don't bother to keep my eyes open, as it's currently quite uncomfortable to do so. Instead I bring up a lazy hand from under the blanket to wipe away the dried salty remains in my eyelashes and at the corners of my eyes. Hopefully when I do bother to properly open them, it will have also helped to bring some clarity to whatever I'm looking at by rubbing some of the sleep away.
My hand lays over my eyes when I'm done rubbing at them, and I snuggle backwards into the familiar warmth. Hitoshi hasn't moved other than to slide one leg closer to mine, so I'm content to just fall back asleep and ignore the headache pounding in my head, but a yawn manages to escape me and it brings attention to my throat. My very dry throat, that definitely needs water. I feel really dehydrated.
I peel my eyes open once more in annoyance, intending to get myself some water and solve my dilemma so I can hopefully go back to sleep for a few more minutes, but am surprised to find myself in a pitch dark room. Where... did I put my phone?
I feel groggy as I prop myself onto one elbow, squinting as my eyes adjust. I find it on the floor by the bed, and when I check the time I'm surprised to see it's only 11pm. I blink at the bright screen, wracking my brain for answers. What's going on? I thought I was awake later than that? I stare at the time displayed on the lock screen, scrutinizing it as if it might reveal more information. My eyes catch on the date under it. It's Wednesday night?! Then, I guess I need to be concerned with how it's already 11pm. I try to remember going to sleep, but I'm pretty sure it was just Tuesday night and I was up pretty late, feeling kind of unwell.
I let my head fall back to the pillow when my headache gets the better of me. No, I was feeling extremely unwell. Enough that my memories are spotty, and what I do remember is all very much not good. I think... I remember Shota and Hizashi. They kept leaving the room and I remember feeling upset about it. Geez, and obviously I was crying, a lot, based on how I'm feeling right now. Ah, but then Hitoshi came, and- wait, what is he doing here?
I turned around quickly, his arm sliding off of me in the process. He shifted, face scrunching.
"Hitoshi," I whispered urgently, biting down hard on my lip.
"Mmmh, what?" He opened his eyes, sitting up with a deep breath. "You okay?"
"Hitoshi," I started again, "why are you here? What happened? Why is it- why is it Wednesday night already?" I sit up halfway, looking up at him.
"Hey, take a deep breath," he squinted tiredly at me through the dark, and kept eye contact with me while I demonstrated a breath for him. It took more effort than expected. "There you go, Izuku. How are you feeling?"
"I-I'm fine, I just- what happened?"
"Aizawa and Mic told me you've been having trouble sleeping the past few nights," he tells me quietly, and I don't say anything. I already knew that, but I was more interested in what else happened.
"I'm assuming since you're asking you don't remember much of last night?" He continues when I don't, and I hesitantly shake my head. Or yesterday. Today. Wednesday. I freak out and then just shy of a whole 24 hours passes with no memory?
